Since I noticed that the AT160 had a 4age in it, I was just wondering whether BlackTop 20V 4age can be swapped into the st162 celica? and how much work would need to be done to have it up and running? ...I found a 20V 4age in good condition and I was wondering if i should undertake this or keep on waiting for the GrayTop/RedTop BEAMS 3sge?
im curious about this to. Would probs be a good bet to find some info abouth the guys who have doen it in there ae corollas as they had the same 4a that the 1t160s had and heaps of those guys have done 20valve convertions. i wouldnt have thought itd be that hard.
Easy if you have an AT160 but easier to stick with 3S if you already have one. Easy to dowsize the 3S to 1700cc by using the 4S block, 3S crank, 84mm pistons (eg Alfasud/4A?). Can easily be dropped to 1600cc by using 4A rods and re-sizing/de-stroking Saves swapping mounts, gearbox, shafts, radiator as well as electrics All the AT160's I've seen (Auto SW20 (3S!) as well??) have a single long RHS driveshaft as in the Corolla - not good for Torque steer effect?
Slightly off topic, but from what I've seen, all of the 4A-GE engines have less torque than the 3S-GE series, even if they have more power. Does anyone here have any experience with both engines? If you do, could you explain how different it feels and whether it matters much? Thanks, Teran
RPM. obviously from the lack of displacement the 4 will not make the torque. they make the power from more rpm.
