Im trying to find some aftermarket seat brackets/sliders for my 165. Everywhere I look they say 86-89 celica fwd only. I could have sworn that the gts and alltrac seats are interchangable and have the same mounts. Anyone conferm that they indeed are the same?

the gts and al trac have the same floor dimensions up to sbout the rear seam weld, due to the rear subframe in the at, and the front is slightly different. (about a 9mm diff.) i doubt cheap old toyota would redesign the same year of car for just that matter. heres a gts underbody pic. same dimensions as the at fro the floor. if in fact the rails are different, the difference would be in the mm, and be compensated for.

    and the at..

**edit, the trannie tunnels are different in the pan they are wider in the gts.**

^That's what I've heard too. Can't confirm it though. If anyone has done a direct swap, please post up.

I know they are different. I have the alltrac seats in my gts and had to change them. The ones of the alltrac are more narrow as the 4wd system eats some space away ;).

the rails are different because of the larger center tunnel i thought.

Mounting points to the seat are the same, but mounting points on the chassis are NOT the same. No discussion possible, I've done it. :)

Due to the wider centertunnel the alltrac's raillocation to the chassis is more narrow.

Someone has had to have put aftermarket seats in a 165 at some point in time. I assume that they were custom brackets/sliders?

Friend of mine put some in his 5th gen and had to make his own ... otherwise the seats were too high and hit the roof :)

This is dissapointing to say the least. I could get a great deal on a corbeau seat and no way to mount it. Why do they have a 185 fitment and not a 165? I swear when it comes to aftermarket 165s get no love.

That's because the car is allready great ;) and doesn't need aftermarket...

I can confirm both what lonewolf and Mafix added as I tried this years ago.

Just to clarify, the seat rails them selves are the same - individualy they are identical, everything thing else is different. Where they bolt to the floor pan is different - front to back the bolt spacing is the same but side to side it is narrower. Where they are spot welded to the seat frame is ALSO different and the seat frame itself is different between the two models. The ST162 seat frame is different from the ST165 seat frame - ever notice how the ST165 has the seat belt clip bolted to the seat frame where as the ST162 has it bolted to the tunnel???

Go to the scarp yard and find a ST162, pull the seats, unbolt the lower seat cushion basket assembly from the seat frame, unbolt the upper seat frame from the lower seat frame (cushion and all still attached) take just the lower seat frame assembly home with you...grind the spot welds where the rails are tacted to the seat frame on the inner most section (closest to the tunnel) now you should have two seperate rails with only one still attached to the seat frame. Bolt down both rails onto your ST165 floor, you'll noticed how the original tact welds that you just ground off dont line up any more - tact weld its new mounting location (should only be for the inner rail only and with the rails still bolted to the floor) once the frame is tacted you can now mount your new seat in simply using custom brackets that you can also tact weld directly to seat frame itself.

Or if you dont care for the ST165 seats then you can gut it for just its lower rail/frame assembly, instead of having to modify a ST162 one...remember to keep in mind though that the ST165 safety restraint system is different from the ST162 so if your going to be retaining the stock 3 point ST165 safety restraint system you have to use the ST165 seat frame and NOT the ST162 assembly, but chances are if your putting in after market seats then your also going to use at least a four point safety harness as well.
Just remembered that the ST165 floor pan might actually have a mounting location for the ST162 seat belt clip but I cant remember if Toyota actually spot welded a nut to that portion of the driveshaft tunnel floor panel or not, I'd go outside and check but the cars covered.

auctions.yahoo has occasionaly had specific seat rails specially designed for after market seats to bolt into place on a ST165

    edit:

I just remembered that there is a securing point on the tunnel for something but my memory is vague I belive the ST165 uses a different rail track guide on the inner most portion of the seat assembly and this is where it fastens itself to on the side of the tunnel. I'll have to take a look at my ST165 seats again and compair them to my ST162 seats.

I have done it, the drivers seat is bolted direct to the floor, as other wise it just sits to high for me. Passenger side uses the general purpose universal sliders attached to the car. But custom mounted, I have not found any after market seat frame that bolts directly to the 165. I went though all the UK suppliers and not one had any seat frame listed.

Aftermarket seats I have tried in other celicas, I have always found to be too high using the supplied kit.
There is the mounting point for the 162 seat belt clasp in the 165 floor pan, as I now use it.

I have kept my inertia reel seat belts, even with the bucket seats, as 4 point harness and no roll cage are not a great idea IMO

Well I have both types of seats so I can confirm that the space between the 2 front bolts of an All Trac seat is 16 1/4" and the same measurement for a GTS is 17 1/2". The space between the 2 back bolts of an All Trac seat is 16 3/4" and the same measurement for a GTS is 17 1/2".

This thread turned out to have very good info! Im trying to decide weather to just buy the 162 sliders and narrow them. I have a mig and the measurments (or I can measure from my own seat to double check, either way) so I dont think it would be difficult at all.

st165, are those measurments taken from the center of the holes?

I found that bride makes 165 specific rails but cost twice as much.

So is this to say that if I want to install 165 seat leathers in my 162 I'm going to have to cut a bunch of stuff up and reweld?
