    Thanks.

I just bought a 1988 Celica GT and have a few questions. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Is there a particular muffler that is recommended? I am hoping for the most quiet. Autozone has a OEM 'Defender' muffler, does anyone recommend this one? I will be visiting a wrecking yard soon. Is it unadvisable to get a muffler in a wrecking yard?

How would I find meetings of Celica owners in my local area (San Diego)?

    Thanks again.

As long as the muffler looks like it's in good shape with no rust it should be fine to get one from the wreckers....

I'm pretty sure stock exhaust is 2" so look for a muffler with a 2" inlet! :D

There's a regional section on the main page to post meet's in.

I would say just hit the junk yard if you just want to lower the noise level, BUT you not really looking for a bright and shiney one- yuor actually going to need to listen more than look. The material in the inside of the muffler is 20 years old and may be cracked and broken so when you have a muffler give it a good shake hopefully nothing falls out. As far as an A/M muffler I Like to think this way, the smaller the muffler the louder the sound and the larger the muffler the sound will be a deeper sound.
Any A/M muffler will fit all you need is your old piping with the mounting flange.

Go to any muffler shop and you can get an OEM replacement for about 70-80 bucks installed...
