what mods do i need to do to fit the 5sfe crank into my gen 1 3sgte? will it work with standard rods, pistons or will i need to upgrade.
yea you have to get the crank machined to fit the 3sgte block. just wondering if anyone had done this mod yet.
i find it a pointless mod. personally making a it an undersquare engine and gaining a small bit of low end torque, but losing high end hp. is not worth it in the long run.
i dont know from what i from online lots of guys in the states are doing this mod to their mr2s and getting good numbers plus more off boost driverbillty.
I had to get my crank fit to the block but it wasnt a big deal. i'd never driven a 165 so i dont know if it added much power but i had it done and its been working great for me so far.
making the engine undersquare will give it more jam on the low end. but she will lose on the top end.
your pretty much wanting to make a stroker, yes there will be a hp increase, but the torque is where you will notice it most. thats why people stroke engines, to give stupid torque at low rpms. think of putting a longer johnson bar on a stubborn bolt. your giving the engine more leverage.
You need to use a 5S-FE crankshaft, 3S-GTE rods, and Custom stroker pistons. The 5S-FE crankshaft needs to have it's rod journals machined down to the 3S rod size. This makes a 2.2 liter engine and gives huge gains in torque and HP. It won't do a whole lot for a stock motor but once you start putting bigger turbo's on and a EMS there are very large differences.
I'll go talk to my machinist and ask him what all he had to do to get my 5s crank into my engine and i'll get some specs and what not.
