Is this possible? I want to relocate the cat to where it is on the GT-S (after the flexpipe) and basically prep the exhaust for the swap.
Not sure if it's swappable, is the pipe diameter the same from the 3SGE to 3SFE? If it is, and the connection points where they bolt on are the same, I wouldn't see why not. Seems like a lot of fuss unless there is something to be gained though.
Sorry, I neglected to mention I have GT-S exhaust already from the flexpipe back so the the diameter isn't an issue. The main reason I want to do this is I suspect my cat is bad (I hear major rattling in there) and is too costly to replace it with OEM.
iirc. you can use a steel 5sfe gasket on the 3sg head. i think that means the flange may be the same. im not sure youd see a noticable difference if its not ported perfectly due to size differences.
I don't know if the ports are the same or not, I believe it will bolt on though. hnoes I guess an alternative to this would be to break out the OBX header I have and buy a 3sge downpipe & cat :fingersx
Nobody read my threads anymore? Did it 2yrs ago on Snowy - with the no cat GE exhaust it makes a huge difference, try to get the one with 2 downpipes. It's the best of the 3 GE gen1 variants FE pipe is a lot narrower too, so I suggest swapping the whole thing IMO the FE exhaust makes a lousy boat anchor even..... Compared to the gen2 The better gen1 version - beware of cracks between the two middle cylinders Gen1-3 pipes will fit, BEAMS won't
Thanks guys! I think I found a used GE manifold not sure if it has the heatshield or not I'll have to call. The other parts I prefer to be new anyway. I'm hoping this won't be too costly, but I think it's best to have the exhaust sorted instead of screwing around with it after the fact. :cheers
you could try and source a pacesetter header as well. only fits the 3sfe and bolts right up. then you just cut in a converter.
I found the source of the rattle, it was a hole starting on the downpipe before the flex pipe which is now officially a hole after driving it today :lol2 I think I've decided to convert to the 3SGE 4-2-1 design w/ cat mainly for compatibility purposes between the 2 cars - well that and I know the GT-S manifold has been cracked and the cat is toast. I'll eventually need to get those anyway. I made a template off the GT-S for an EGR block-off plate. It shouldn't be too hard to make at the shop unless someone knows where to buy a prefabbed block-off plate that is. :fingersx
i used the ats ones. i had them send me two of the oval pieces, then sloted the bolt holes with a dremell on the one for the exhaust.
I have a 3sfe and found a 3sge in a salvage yard (either a '88 or '89), and I was thinking about using the header, my exhaust has been welded togeather at the front pipe to the middle cat to the resonator pipe... do the ge exhaust manifold have the same sensors as the fe manifold? thanks.
That depends where you are? Use the one that comes with the exhaust, the GE swap is a good cheap upgrade but beware of cracks in the GE headers (usually at the top between the two middle cyls)
