Heh, not the most riveting of posts and if I'm honest it doesn't get any better! :D

Had a bashed indicator that bothered me for a while so I grabbed one of my spares and changed it over.

Also continued with painting the skirts...taking ages as its hard to get a decent finish it seems.

    Back home for Christmas :hurray

I'd got myself a working electric aerial from a member on here as mine hadn't gone up or down since I'd owned the car. Started by removing the old one...

The old aerial did make a noise but the mast seemed broken so I opened it up to see what had happened. If it were an easy fix I'd use a repair kit but upon removing the cover it looked like it had dropped off the Titanic.

I move onto the new unit but sadly it isn't a straight plug and play replacement. The plugs are quite different and there seems to be an extra wire (red and white) on my old aerial plug to the relay.
Will have to try and figure out what that does :scratch

(old plug on the left...new one on the right)

Will take a look tomorrow when its light...and hopefully not stormy like its been all week!

So water must've crept in over the years.

Yeah Steve, its a bit of a lost cause repairing that aerial. I didn't get round to putting in the replacement actually what with a busy family time and of course, the insane weather we are having. I've a garage but its way too narrow to work in.

However, I did manage to put in a few bits and bobs during the odd 5 mins of dry weather.

I put on my new (new to me) skirts which was a bit of a task. Nothing lined up and fixings were not actually fixing to anything! Its on there firmly but I'll come back to it with new clips, threads etc to make a nicer job of it.

Also upgraded my speakers in the front. I'd collected a couple of spare speaker boxes and installed 4x6's in hope of a little better quality. This involved some drilling and cutting of an Aluminium strip to create my own mounting points.
Came out better than I thought actually and fits snugly with no rattles. The result? Still sounds a little pants. I suspect my amp will need upgrading next but at least now I'm ready for it.

Other than fitting some replacement mud flaps, that's about it sadly. Weathers been so terrible I've not got as much done as I would have hoped.

Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas and New Year. Thanks for looking :)

You cut the box from the speakers in the front?

If the box stay open, you will lose low frequencies. The sound quality will be worse than the original. :ugh

They look open for illustration purposes only otherwise I couldn't show how I did it. I cut them in the fact I drilled a hole to mount a bracket and then plugged that hole with a bolt but that is all. They are quite intact.

Besides, the speakers I fitted are designed to be mounted upwards through a parcel shelf with or without boxes and their low frequency range is far greater than the little 4 inch speakers they replaced overall.

Trust me on this ;) the amp has always sounded poor using original speakers or otherwise :D Its probably slightly older than the car.

Ok, I'm waiting the end result, when you have the work completed. ;)

Might be in for a little wait :D I don't get to spend much time with the car overall.

However, I've some parts in Finland I've been working on which I'll post back to the UK when they are done. I managed to get another set of front seats with the driver side electric motors for lumbar adjustment in the UK. Idea being I'll use the motors from the replacement driver seat for my existing passenger seat (swap the entire back) and use the replacement passenger seat covers (lovely condition and not worn) for my existing drivers seat....with me? Hopefully ending up with the best bits from all and both electric.

So in preparation for that I needed to modify a centre console to accept a second lumbar support control switch. I had a couple of spares so I can return to standard if I want in the future. The console I'm using has a cool little courtesy light in the back.

I didn't just want to cut a hole and drop the switch in as I wanted to retain the factory look somewhat, so I needed to insert the switch surround from yet another spare.

So I cut out the switch surround from one console and cut a hole in the other to receive it.

All worked out well as I needed a small gap around the edges so the glue has somewhere to go.

Glued from the underside and filled the surface gaps with bumper filler, sanding filling sanding filling later I'm left with this.

Bit more prep to do and I can start painting :)

i found that the stock boxes worked really well if you change all of the old foam seals, make sure the enclosure is airtight.

i stuck with the stock sizes and did not cut anything up, wire them up to an aftermarket amp and they sounded great

lone wolf - I've not seen how you did your switch but your Celica overall is outstanding :)

As the owner I see many things in need of improvement of course. My car is never finished :)

    ** UPDATE! **

Finally got back to the UK and with a few days to myself, I got back to fitting my second electric seat.

My centre console arrived safely in the post so with a little more filling and smoothing, I was able to put on a plastic primer coat and a black finish.

Its actually the same black I used to spray around the radio and heater controls plastic so although it does look quite shiny here, it will dull down nicely but still provide a little contrast.

While that was curing, I got on with transferring the seat back frame with the electric motors into my passenger seat (old salvaged seat below).

The frame was a bit of a mess (left) so it took a while to rub down, treat with a rust cure, rub down again and give a coat of heavy wax to hopefully keep the frame shiny.

This was a very long and boring process so because I didnt want to go mad, I took breaks to play with the dog :)

    back to it..

I gave the motors etc a good clean and service and it had them whirring away quietly and smoothly in their refreshed frame.

Popped on the seat sponge, covers and while I was there, serviced the seat back mechanism too.

I'd had busted up and tatty seat adjusters on my seats but had managed to get hold of some undamaged bits. Quick primer and paint saw them go from blue to black.

All ready to go back in

I had some help from my father (thanks Dad!) to make up a second seat wiring loom and had fuses placed in appropraite areas and earthed nicely. Testing showed both driver and passenger seats are now electric. Soooo

Went on to finish the centre console to change it from blue to black...

This included painting the light fitting and ashtray plastics. Also gave the ashtray surround a quick polish and straighten to neaten things up

I've got to pick up another lumbar support switch but here it is in place (bit dusty and not screwed down but you get the idea).

I didn't get time to wire in the extra light sadly but will do that on the next visit. Oh, the bag of white on the left there isn't 'crack' but is in fact dry rice. I put it in there when I put the car away as it soaks up any moisture in the air :)

After that...I just generally enjoyed the car :) Thanks for looking.

Hi Chris, great work on the console, love the light you put in the back, that's a good idea about putting the "crack";) there to soak up the moisture :)

I love the black paint on your Celica, really suits it well.

Wow, you've done a really good job on those interior modifications. I love how it all still looks OEM, though slightly modernised with the piano black.

    Awesome dog, too. :D

Might be the only thing that does :D

Cheers Steve. Yeah I love the black paint also. A bugger to keep clean but worth the effort :)
With regards to rice...it only works one time I think. I'd be better off using Silica pouches that can be dried out again or something similar. Probably not worth it on a car that gets used more often than mine tho.

Many thanks chaps. Allot of messing about but worth it.
The dogs name is Quinn...he's getting on a bit but is enthusiastic to play at all times :)
