Its been awhile since I've played the Celica game but I'm back with a vengeance. Approved budget by the SO is $14,000 for completion. PLANS (to be updated) KO Racing Black Top Spec - $5800 http://www.koracing.net/viewproduct.php?folder=120&product=585 KO Racing Turbo Kit - $2100 http://www.koracing.net/viewproduct.php?folder=11&product=462 ACT HD Clutch - $494 http://www.koracing.net/viewproduct.php?folder=88&product=536 Tweak'd Harness for ST165>ST185 - $600 http://www.tweakdperformance.com/onlinestore/ E150F Transmission - $TBD http://www.foreignengines.com/Engine_72049_TOYOTA_CELICA_1991_4WD_5-Speed_Manual_Transmission.aspx Speedsource Engine Mounts - $90 http://speed-source.net/?wpsc-product=toyota-engine-mounts Here she is. She's not pretty but she came with a slew of parts and work already done to it. 00202_6qW7JtljdL0_600x450 by MP.Hill, on Flickr HPIM1934 by MP.Hill, on Flickr Mmm rusty wheel well. Thankfully after cleaning it up its just surface rust. HPIM1932 by MP.Hill, on Flickr HPIM1927 by MP.Hill, on Flickr The car came with a 2nd Gen 3SGTE with full ECU and harness. Came with a load of parts including piping, intercooler, etc. Downpipe is crushed from a front impact. alltrac by MP.Hill, on Flickr alltrac by MP.Hill, on Flickr Got the trans off and discovered a new pressure plate, clutch, and flywheel. Can't get the damn flywheel bolts off even with impacts. Going to use a little heat to melt the locktite here. alltrac by MP.Hill, on Flickr Turbo isn't looking to hot. alltrac by MP.Hill, on Flickr Transmission disconnected. I still have one transmission in the engine bay and another in the hatch :smile1: alltrac by MP.Hill, on Flickr Here is the engine in the car. Turns over just fine but its been sitting for awhile. Freeze plug in the front of the block is gone, I bet water got inside and froze. After the swap this might be good for a rebuild along with the second head and block in the hatch. alltrac by MP.Hill, on Flickr Seen better days. alltrac by MP.Hill, on Flickr More parts. Turbo pieces, piping, headlights, body pieces, intercoolers, brackets, alternators, control arms, whole alltrac steering column with key, and more. alltrac by MP.Hill, on Flickr alltrac by MP.Hill, on Flickr Last closeup of the damaged timing cover. alltrac by MP.Hill, on Flickr alltrac by MP.Hill, on Flickr Plans are still in motion. Does Dr. Tweak still make that harness adapter? :amuse: Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Heatgun method works great so far. Pulled a few then my adapter broke and I called it a night. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Lesson learned here. Cheap chrome adapters don't take impact well. I was just too lazy to reach for my impacts. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Here is a nice closeup shot of the crushed downpipe for your viewing pleasure. Took a few hours today with a buddy to strip down the motor. Didn't get as far as I'd like but here are a few shots from today. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Harness off. Prepping to mail to Dr. Tweak for rebuilding. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Got this anchor off the car. Half the bolts were missing already. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Intake manifold off. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr I didn't pay attention to this hard line and it snapped as the exhaust manifold was removed. No worries as this will be replaced with an AN braided line. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Speaking of oil feed lines... Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Took a closer look at the transmission that came off the 2nd gen 3sgte. Appears to be a E153 w/ LSD but please correct me if I'm wrong. Useless to me so it goes on craigslist. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Started to remove some more accessories like the power steering pump and now the upper belt cover. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Not really sure what the PO did here but it felt apart as soon as I touched it. No matter, I need a celica timing belt cover regardless. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr I didn't notice this spacer setup on the intake manifold. I assume this is for the T-VIS system. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr The PO told me he put a new water pump and timing belt on. Pretty sure that SCREW is not OEM. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr And finally the crank bolt. 125psi on my 1/2" impact combined with heat and PB blaster....this thing would not budge. I guess I'll try again next weekend. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Finally pulled off all the accessories and the oil pan. Looks good so far, no pieces of metal anywhere. The dent in the oil pan thankfully didn't damage anything that I can tell however I don't have enough experience to really look at it by eye. Unfortunately I misplaced my socket to remove the head bolts so that'll have to wait until next weekend. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Thanks. I noticed some interesting damage on the head today. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr These are the worse offenders. Annddd head comes off...not too bad. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr ^Funny this picture makes it look like theres a hole above the valve but its actually oil reflecting from the light. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Today made some progress. Engine removed: Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Disconnected everything and used the hoist to drop the motor on a rolly thing I bought. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Roll her out after I raised up the car. No pictures while it was in progress sadly. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr I forgot about this as it slide out of the drive shaft. Left a nice huge puddle of fluid all over my garage. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Rear engine shot. The passenger side axle bolts were all stripped so I left it on during removal. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Minor surface rust near the battery area. Everything else looks pretty damn clean. Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr Untitled by MP.Hill, on Flickr My apartment manager stopped by and watched me do this in utter awe. She laughed and said she definitely wants to see the finished project. Until next weekend... Started to disassemble front suspension. Steering rack removed. Dirty engine bay. Pile o' suspension/steering Broke whatever this was connected to the drivers side hub. Started to clean all the dirt off. The engine bay is unusually pink. Mmmm rusty brake booster. Removed a few more bits from the engine bay. Power steering lines, brake booster lines, intercooler pump, etc. Removed the passenger fender and discovered the radiator support was welded on. Interior cleaned up a bit, rotting carpet removed, dash removed. Well kind of cleaned up. The rear passenger area/hatch still has a ton of leftover parts I need to sort through. Oh and the top of the car storage.
saw this car on CL myself awhile back. was wishing i had the money to get it and tinker with it but i have a pair of GTS's to deal with already anyway. glad somebody is putting the work into it that this car deserves!! looks like a fun bit of work is ahead of you lol
Well then... Howdy! What's going on? can I possibly persuade you to ship one of those spare motors? LOL.
Goddamn tempting...meet halfway? LOL. I still think I'd rather just get the 215 again though. That motor was just too much fun.
I'm actually considering this now that I'm looking at it. The price is right but I'm concerned about having to order replacement parts from outside the US.
I didn't have to. I did at first, but then I got smarter and realized a lot of the parts crossed over to the ST205 motor, even some to the ST2185 and SW20 motor.
Pulled the heater core out today. What a pain in the ass. Mmmmm tasty. Also got the dirty trans off the dirty 1st gen. Gotta throw it up on craigslist after I pull the wiring harness!
Holy crap that is a ton of work you are doing, what exactly are your plans for it when you get her done? racer?
Rally! See below. The plan is to keep the stripped interior, either VEMS or MegaSquirt with most likely a gen2 3SGTE although I'm considering an ST215 at this point with an ST205 trans. All this may change as I still have a few months to plan this out and I'm just stripping down the chassis for paint at this point.
Ah interesting. I'll have to look into that. On a side note, I was in the garage today and noticed this on both sides of the car. I wonder if theres a way to match this with my VIN.
Not too much progress today but I finally removed the wiring harness from the ol' 1st gen 3SGTE and pulled the brake booster because it was rusting.
