hi guys, I have a 1gen 3sge engine (us version) but want to get pretty good hp from it, I have heard that but not 100% condfident that you can use the 1 gen 3sge head on a 2nd gen block, also im not using the tvis intake as im putting ITB'S on the engine, can anybody help me out with good info on how to get nice hp. people are telling me go for a more modern engine but I love the valve cover on the 1 gen engine so want to keep that if at all possible. thanks guys any info is much appreciated

If you keep your factory intake and swap in a JDM ecu you will bump your power output to 160hp or so. You can get custom hi-comp pistons from Wiseco but you'll be limited to 91+ octane fuel. You can get longer duration cams to push your torque curve up, but you may need a Rev 2 head to clear them.

Heck, you could bolt on the turbo+manifold from an ST165, fight with fueling and timing a bit, and make power in the 200hp range.

an ecu will not give you 160. no idea where you are getting that.

you need to look at raising the compression over 10:1 and then do valves/cams/springs and find ways to run a LOT of timing. then itbs.

also stand alone. and keep in mind you will easily spend as much as i have on my turbo engine for half the power.

USDM 3S-GE was pretty heavily de-tuned. Ditch your EGR and install a JDM ecu (which ran a much more aggressive tune than what we got in the states) and you'll be able to bump yourself close to that original figure of 160hp. It won't be spot-on because, you know, the engines are old these days... But it'll be a lot closer than it is now.

But... I mentioned the 165 setup because it really is the simpler way to make power. Doesn't cost that much (troll alltrac.net, those guys sell their factory mani/turbo pairs pretty cheap) and you get a lot more power than you can feasibly get all-motor.

you'd be lucky to gain 10hp from a full jdm swap.
