It has been a long time since I have updated this thread! So.. The project has continues with the engine. I bought another celica (89') for spare parts but I thought I could implement my dream; turbocharge 3S-GE. So we took the engine off the car. The plan is this: -3sgte internals. OEM or custom -Megasquirt -Clutch. Not cinter, the car is going to be daily driven so "motion launcher" is not an option. -wr480 turbocharger -T-VIS without valves -Basic overhaul
Here are some parts I got earlier: Turbo _might_ be too big but it'll do for now. :smilielol5I got it for so low price so I had to have it!! Exhaust manifold. It's simple but does the job.. :hehe And here is the condition now:
Lovely to see someone is still giving love to these awesome cars! Is it hard to come by a 3sgte donor car?
Great pics! My windshield surround has rust too and I've been dreading this job. Very inspirational! Thanks
It has been very quiet lately because all of these running "projects" but I have some more photos for you!
It was unnecessary to paint the alternator plate and polish the frame because it is screaming for it's death. And now I have to replace it. :cry Got a little freaky with the purple paint. :wink
Now when the engine is off it is an easy job to clean the enginebay. Also some painting: it looks just too dumb to have different colour engine bay. Thank god it was not red!
And finally the worked cylinder head arrived! Also here is a photo of the car I use while the celica is under work. :corsair
And the last post for today. I lost a lot of pictures while updating my phone. Anyways we had the car rolling / working but we blew the head gasket 3-4 times for several reasons. The problem now is the ignition (knocking). And I have to get adjustable ignition system. And the solution for the problem is on its way! So it works but knocks. So she does not like boost. The car now is hibernating. Waiting for more parts.
It has been a long time since I have posted. The project has progressed well and the car is almost ready for the road! Here are progress photos from last winter Waking up Head off one more time. First I changed the head gasket. In case we would increase the turbo pressure I bought a steel gasket. Before that I had OEM 3S-GTE graphite gasket and I didn't really know how much it would hold. Someone probably could tell.? (This was like 5th time the cylinder head is removed bc of the excessive spark advance-->knocking. Also, the first gasket set I bought was way too "cheap"; the head gasket was just messy mass after removal and the cylinder bolts were faulty produced?? Buying the gaskets money went to USA and the product came from china...SMH... I finished the piping I started. So now it has straight 3" tubing with one muffler. Then I torn down the trunk. My intention was to wipe the rust out from there and paint it white. I should have done this back in 2014 when we painted the car with my father but it was just hiding over there under the mat so we didn't really pay attention to it. But it was not so tough or long-standing task to do.
I had less photos from winter that I recalled But here's something I took while working on it. Making the exhaust.. I am about to paint the red bonnet and the lamp covers black. The compression piping was temporary as you can see from the earlier photos. But here is finally the final tubing to the intercooler.
Intercooler You can't really see it behind the lip. Only the blue silicone tubes are slightly visible. Photos are not always in specific order..sorry about that.
My personal favorite part of working on the car Some after-wash photos from day before tuning. Tuning day!! I finally got my ZF ECU (this guy is a wizard, trust me!) after waiting for months!! I had financial problems at first...Well, who doesn't when you build cars with passion :lol With the original ECU... the car was running so rich, the gas went past piston rings to the oil sump and there was a lot of it within the oil :crying So I went to store and bought this cheap ass oil to flush the system. Then changed the oil+filter (Herth+buss filter, Valvoline VR1 20W-50 mineral oil and then X-1R) Overall the tuning day was very productive. We still have to get the final tuning on the dyno. But at least the engine wont blow!! I also took some videos! Rev limiter @5000 rp/m Testrun shortclip May 3rd we'll hit the dyno! If possible I'll try take as much videos as I can. If everything goes well, I'll get the car inspected the same day!!
