when I first got the celica it had 205/45/16 all 4 corners, when they wore out I went with used 205/50/16 which are a hair too big but do the job, ended up keeping one 205/45 that still had meat on it in case I ever needed a tire, now the two front 205/50 are shot, was thinking about going back to 205/45 on one axle since I still got one tire of that size left

question is it bad to run two same size tires but different brands on one axle, I know the back would be ok but how would the front and tranny handle two different brand same size tires, one I have is a kuhmo ast, was looking at picking up a same size diffenernt tire with around the same tread depth

Tires on a FWD car need to be the same size up front, brand doesn't matter as much as tire diameter! If your tires are 2 different sizes on a drive axle, be it FWD, RWD, or even AWD, it can damage your transmission, due to a difference in number of revolutions the tires are making. You are best to avoid running different size tires unless you know their outer diameters are same.

Some racers run 225/45/15 tire up front, but 205/50/15 on the rear, however they are usually very close in diameter...
