1988 Toyota Celica All-trac for sale. Head gasket failure, turbo no good, rest of car good. Fix up for driving or ice racing, strip for parts, or?

Make an insulting offer if interested. Either it goes to a good home or the boneyard.

Wow that would be so cool.

    One question............ whats a vacation?

Sorry I am self employed and work 52 weeks a year. I don't get vacations, the only holiday I get is Christmas Day. When I do get down your way it will be on a tuesday as I am off work Monday morning at 6 am and don't work again until thursday. So I would probably leave monday evening and drive overnight.

I would like to make it down for one of the meets you have or to see the action at MIR but that depends on if it falls on a holiday in the middle of the week.

I also need to get a passport now....

I do commercial cleaning now. I have 2 McDonalds restaurants I clean once a week, a Broadways Bar & Grill I clean twice a week and 5 Dr Bernstein Health & Diet Clinics I clean once a week.

The paper on the wall says I'm a Programmer/Analyst and I did that from 1980 till 2001 working for Northern Telecom/ Bell Northern Research (now NorTel) and then DY-4 Systems which did all the electronic upgrades to the American M1A1 Abrams tank to bring it to an M1A2 Abrams, and finally I did a number of contracts for Y2K fixes at which point I discovered there were alot of benefits to working for myself....mainly my numerous car expenses.

Cleaning fits in nicely cause I can do it at night and have my days free as my mom is getting old and quite often needs to go to doctors appointments or other trips so I can help her out.

So after 21 years of workin for the man you decided to call it quits eh?? I have a boss but it's just me an him in our company and I pretty much make my own hours...which is nice... I was thinking about getting my own business number so I can do the writeoff thing too, but I'm going to wait until after I get a mortgage because I heard they don't like self-employed people! :D

Wasn't nortel involved in that crazy controversy about stocks or something a few years ago??

    - passenger side rear hub & new bearing
    - rear half shaft
    - st185 lsd differential
    - differential mount
    - st185 drive shaft
    - st205 shifter
    - front half shaft
    - 2 front hubs & new bearings
    - 2 front shocts & strut mounts
    - 2 stainless steel front brake lines
    - whiteline front sway bar

Ha I doubt that, theres alot of nice work in some of the cars on this forum but thanks.

You and me both me especially since it should improve the handling of the car but I still need to find some springs and I don't really want to lower the car and Toyota would have to try and order them from Japan.

I would have done alot of the work last winter but re injured my back so I've only really been able to work on the car and everything else that didn't get done all winter for the past month.

So far I've concentrated on a couple areas Power Window & Power Lock Maintenance and then I was going to adjust my headlight covers cause their not flush with the hood and that just kills me so I popped the hood and saw that pesky radiator and radiators seem to be very dear to us 165 owners so as Rick89GTS had pointed out although yould hardly know it since it was painted black I do have a radiator with brass end tanks so I thought it would be a good idea to try and preserve it as I can allways get it recored.

A little more buffing and polishing and it should be going back in tomorrow. I have also ordered a 12" electric fan to go on the passenger side of the radiator to get more air into the engine bay. The fan will probably go in front of the rad and push air through it as I'm worried the fan will just melt if I put it behind the rad since the exhaust is so close.

Call me crazy but I think that if you show your car alot of love & care it will sense that and try to perform its best. So I was becoming very concerned about my rad so it finally took priority and hopefully tomorrow my Celica will be a happier car, and I like to keep my Celica happy.

    One of these days.......

I too prefer stock ride height, and all the after market springs are too weak for a 1500kg car.

if you have tooling, consider the kyb agx coil over conversion.
easy to get new 4 way adjustable inserts and change the spring rates:

or bite the bullet and get Tein SS or DMS 40mm coilovers. Suspension and brakes are the best investment imho.

Surely there is some aftermarket springs suitable for the 165!?

Definitely pays to be careful though, from what I have seen. In Australia we have King Springs, a company that basically sells cheap springs, 250 AUS for a full set of 4, most of their business is selling lowered springs.

A guy over in the Eastern States had what you guys call a Half-Trac, over here its a SX with a GT4 motor in it. On a club cruise, he actually snapped a spring, luckily nobody was injured and nothing came of it, but its an eye-opener. Most people pointed the finger at the increased weight of the 3SGTE in the front, and Im inclined to agree.

Looking forward to more updates, I know you are sparing no expense on this, just need to find time between work, helping your mother and helping all of us here! :D

Awesome work so far, and awesome thread though. What has come of your 85 Supra?

All ready to go back in. I put the fan on just for the picture.

Much easier to get in without the fan attached.

  14. LOVE the radiator ends tanks! Dont forget to do the overflow tank while your at it.
Did you get that idea from my dads Healy when you saw it the time you came over to pick up all those parts from me?
Thanks for the beer BTW I tried to make it last as long as I could but unfortunately it ran Dry - pun intended. I got to make a trip out your way some time this summer so we can shoot the shit and get drunk on the good stuff. :pals:

Ah great more brass to polish, I'll add it to my list.

Actually the first thing I would have polished would have been about 25 years ago and would have been a 750cc Norton motorcycle engine that I had in an old chopper.

    Thanks guys :D

I figure it took about 15-20 hours and a pile of sandpaper.

In comparrison it took me 2 hours to get the front of the TMIC to this state. Perhaps another hour on it and it should be pretty shiny.
