i had them powdercoated white. i'm planning on getting the 16" gts rims and powerdercoat that as well. thanks for all the compliments! it took me 3 months to get it to where its at and its not even done. i have speed-source shifter busings, extended clutch slave pushrod, and some poly bushings that need to go in.

i'm having some valvtrain noise. not just a ticking noise but a clattering noise. anyone ever had this problem? i was going to do the 3sge cams with shimless buckets but i dont know if this will cure the problem.

i'm very sure its the top end. i guess i'll just pull the valve cover to see whats going on.

my mate in a st182 thought he had valvetrain problem and was full sure it was coming from the top of the engine turns out no.3 spun a bearing and the piston was tapping the cyclinder head which gave a tapping sound... i hope for your own sake its the valve clearance or something thou!!! ohnoes

i dont think its a valve clearance problem. a valve clearance problem would be a tapping or ticking noise. its something else. i hope it aint the bottom end. there is very small particles of metal in the oil though. i opened the valve cover and couldnt find any abnormal wear.

hmmm have you got a doctors stethascope??? you could pinpoint the noise then!!!

metal in the oil?! Uh-oh. not good mate. there should not be ANY metal in the oil, under ANY circumstances. (apart from dipstick.)

i guess a spun bearing is feasible. it was making that noise ever since first start up. i'm still trying to figure out whats making that tapping top end noise. i did the stethoscope thing and its definately coming from top end. i think aside from the spun bearing, i have something else wrong with the top end. i guess i'll do a rebuild. does anyone have a complete 3sge head?

okay i was thinking about it being a spun bearing. wouldn't a spun bearing cause larger metal particles in the oil pan? what i'm getting is very fine metal particles. you can't even tell it has metal in it until you shine it with a flash light or put it in the sun.

it could have cut the bearing... get me??? giving the rod a bit more length causing the piston to tap the cyclinder head.... crazy

okay problem has been diagnosed. the tapping noises are from the top end. oil is not getting into the clynder head. with closer inspection, wear was found on cam lobes and lifter shims. oil pressure reads fine with a gauge at the stock oil pressure port. but oil flow seems to be interrupted there afterwards. where do oil come out of under the valve cover? maybe i can try to clean them and maybe it'll work. thanks

okay got more parts removed and inspected. metal particles were coming from the camshaft journal caps. when removed i found the journal caps were scarred. bad but fixable. i also found one lifter out of round causing premature wear. oil flow was scarce on the journal caps that were damaged. cleaned out the camshaft oil flow ports. what i was hearing from my top end was a mix of poorly adjusted lifter shims and oil starvation. in light of all this, i'm still looking for a 3sge head if anyone has one complete with cams, i'll gladly take it off their hands.
