Betcha never seen one of these before - 1985 Corona ST162 4 door Saw this auction and still can't believe it's true - A 4 Door ST162! Besides the motor, suspension, mirrors & windscreen it doesn't seem to have anything in common with our cars. 5 bolt hubs in 1985? http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=233607943
Re: The 4 door ST162! - Now I've seen it all that thing has nothing to do with a 4th gen, more likely a 3rd gen, look at the interior !
3rd Gen is RWD - This is the same engine bay as 4th gen Just noticed the Celica steering wheel, footrest & handbrake console. Honestly I thought it was a Tokyo Taxi with a transplanted motor - till I saw the chassis tag! I'm still going WTF, WTF What were they thinking???
Exept this "thing" was on the road at the same time as the Celica AT160 (1600cc) and ST161 (2S-FE) with a 3S-GE and 5 bolt hubs? In 1985 it would have made the 1600cc & 1S/2S Celica look slow The Celica ST162 3S-GE only came a year later with 5 bolt hubs etc? I won't be surprised to find a S/W version of this weird car, thankfully they are extreemly rare, because I think it is g/damn ugly. It looks more like an 80's Corolla more than anything else Makes me wonder what other skeletons are hiding in the Toyota cupboard This is the 1982 Corona S/W 1300cc, RWD - also known as a Corolla in Africa See the resemblence?
According to wikipedia, this was the ninth generation T170 Corona, also known in Europe as the Carina II GT-R (sport model with 2000 cc (3SGE) engine and 5 lug wheel).
burn it! maybe its just that iv woken up but if you concentrate on just the tail light assembly it slightly resembles a soupe (no offence intended to coupe owneres lol) btw that looks more like a 3rd gen handbrake console
I wold have said it has a very similar interior to an ae82 twincam corolla? But the front end to me kinda looks like a mini version of the 89 cressida.
Well it seems there is a S/W version as well! LoL, just kidding - It's actually a 1300cc KT147 which was sold around that time as well, but yeah it's difficult to seperate Corona's and Corolla's at that time. This one looks more like the Corona than the Corolla pictured. Note the "Kiwirised" aerial and mirrors, starting price is $2k wheras you can buy a Camry or Caldina S/W for under $1k???
666? - What, you superstitious or something? Maybe it was an omen there's more of them around than I thought
That car in the uk would be the carina, sending you some info which I hope you like which should shed some light!
Wow, interesting. That Corona doesn't look the best but, the design is so different from the others. The rear design doesn't really look like a Toyota, looks unique though. Nice. I bet that car would actually look real nice with some new paint and wheels. Looking at that 85' Corona at the top of this thread, looks more like it could've been built in 89. Not very many boxy features. The design looks smoother. Man Toyota is wierd, and mysterious. They pull out a futuristic 4th gen Celica with smooth lines then at the very same time, they pull out a boxy ugly camry. Although, I do admire Toyota's designs, but they could've done better lol.
