yeah that looks like it will work. i dont think you have to order it online though, i dont know if you have radio shacks where you live but they will have everything including the wire and fuse holder so thats probably youre best bet.
yeah it is, its looks complicated at first but it really isnt. ill try to help you if you get stuck, i mean i just did it today haha
All right, got the mod on my car now took longer than it prolly should have But it's all good now Thanks for the steps and the pictures really helped
bump for new members to see this. to clarify, the "ignition side wire" is the wire that's originally plugged into the starter. spade and butt connectors make it so no cutting of the original wiring is required. Bad picture being one over each other, but it kind of shows it. ORIGINAL WIRE PLUGGED INTO STARTER goes into pin 86 instead Coming from pin 30 GOES INTO THE STARTER
Here is the one I just put in like a week ago. Really simple, didn't even have to yank off anything of the starter. Just unplugged it and connected my lines into it. Works great and starts strong. No solder needed either (but I soldered the connections onto the relay anyway just to prevent them from slipping off).
I want to do this modification sometime soon. What I already have is a relay like the one depicted, only it does not have the middle "87A" lead. It is a Single Pole Single Throw relay, rather than a Single Pole Double Throw. It is also a 40A, rather than a 30A, but that shouldn't matter as the 30A fuse would go before the relay did. I just wanted to make sure someone else has had success with a SPST - or that it would work. Otherwise, I guess I will need to exchange it. Thanks for any info.
It should be fine, I use a SPDT relay with the middle 87A but I don't use the middle pin. Should be pretty easy to find?
Quick question about this. When I go to start my car nothing at all happens to the starter, no clicks or anything. But I took it to be bench tested and it spun fine. Will this fix the problem or does it sound like some other wiring related thing? I figure its worth a try.
the relay will fix that problem as when i did this relay fix, i havent had the "no start problem at all"....i still have the loud retard whirring noise on occasion tho.
