Hey im new to the forum (obviously) as I recently just bought a 4th gen celica and am pleased to find thur is actually a website dedicated to these nice cars.

I'm only 18 and this is my first car so I don't know JACK bout anything..
I just bought the car and the speakers were already busted. So you can believe how bewildered I was when I took off the speaker case crap for the front speakers and saw that weird box with what you guys say supports 3.5" speakers.. which I'm having a hard time trying to find here in AUS

I know thur has been a few threads already made bout this but im dumb and would love some photo guides of what i can do.. whether i can somehow install 4" speakers into this box or what is the best option.

I'm also aware I'm a dumb rookie and wont b much help to others but I'm alright at photoshop so though I wont be a good member to give advice.. I can make some sigs or wallpapers for some members to help out the community.

All help appreciated and waiting for your idea's!

Welcome to the site! Youll find a ton of info here.

You can fit 4's in the front boxes you just have to cut the holes bigger. It will also help to take the boxes out to do this. Everything is screwed together, If my memory serves me correct, each box only has like 4 or so screws holding into the dash. Some one else may have pics of their dash apart.

crap its been so long since I took those pods out. I seem to remember it being really straight forward though

i took the front boxes out entirely and just screwed into the plastic. (i had to make a small notch so my speakers would fit snug).

as for the rear i just took out the stocks and bought 5 1/2 (i think thats right its the next major size from 4) and screwed them into the speaker holders (they dont fit snug and the screws are angled but it works out fine.)

ya may have to do more than just 4 screws but youll figure it out looking down there.

as for the rears they are 5" speakers damnit! i know they dont exist in teh aftermarket but thats what they are stock haha. just get 5.25s and jigsaw it a bit (or router or anything)

my rears were 4's, which worked nicely when I bought them thinking they would fir the front. the dirvers side box comes out easily enough, the passenger side I think you have to remove the glovie (easy enough to do) to get the box out.

Yeah I've already taken those out.. Wasn't too dificult the hard part is finding 3.5" without having to spend like $90 AUS for them! haha (I'm cheap)

The back speakers are currently not connected to the car and I can't tell whether or not they're busted yet but I was thinking of just getting some 6x9s in that piece of cardboard basicly that goes over the boot..(i've got the hatchback.. anybody know what I'm talking about?) The previous ppl already have some cut holes thur but i guess took the speakers out and didnt give them to me :(

If you don't use the pods at all and connect it straight to the plastic... I thought i read you lose some quality like mid bass or someother crap like that

i lost a lil bit of mid/bass but if your boxes are anything like mine (aka the lil filter cone thing in the box is cracked. then you wont get much and it will sound like crap.)

overall tho it sounds great. I used pioneer for my whole system. (i also have a different taste in music then most peep as well lol :p) I listen to anime, eurobeat and symphonic/classic when i drive.

Mmmyeah true but I think that's a little down the road... Right now I just want any sound possible! lol!
I would take pics of the box so you guys can point out where to actually make the new holes but I left it at a mates place so I'll hopefully get the camera sometime tonight and have photos up within the next 24hours. Thanks heaps to everyone who has helped me so far! I think I'm going to like it here

i would just break out a sharp knife (be careful not to cut yourself :: you are warned :p) and just scrap the hole to the desired size.

Well I went down to strathfield today and bought some cheap ass fairly unknown brand (i think.. in comparison to Sony) 4" 3way 140w speakers and installed those! sound fairly damn good and am very happy with them! I would of taken some pics during the processes but the camera was dead flat

I just installed them into the other speaker spot n the pods.. took out the originally cracked speakers from thur spot n cut up a cereal box and used that to cover the hole n coloured it in black so it looks better and encloses the box. sound good to you guys?
I'm happy :D thanks for everyones help and I'm sure I'll have another problem with my car shortly and hopefully you guys will be thur to help me out again!
