What gen 3SGE is this ?

that somewhat resembles the valve cover of a gte dosnt it? minus the intercooler on top

I see no A/C compressor and if that is the case where it didnt come with a/c from the factory than it has the ribbed serp. belt idler pulley for a/c delete - make sure you get the small cast metal spacer that spaces the pulley bracket between the block casting and idler bracket.
Now if you go out and pull those things - for my generous added information I will gladly accept that HVAC control unit or that BUG parked beside it as a thank you.

Old style starter under ex manifold, old style oil pressure sender [huge], old style TPS, and IIRC the gen II had no TVIS and a 2 piece intake man that covered part of the valve cover.

The reason it doesnt have the 2G intake manifold is because it is still running off the 1G 3SGE ecu and wiring harness, hence the need for the 1G 3SGE oil pressure sending unit. I know this because a service advisor here with a gen4 GTS bought a JDM motor to replace his blown one and the mechanics couldnt figure out how to wire up the harness to the 2G 3SGE sensors. They tried switching the sensors from the 1G to the 2G engine but not all of them could be used ie the TVIS. I suggested that if the intake manifolds share the bolt pattern then just switch out the intake manifold and sensors. That way it will still run off the 1G ecu and the TVIS will still be functional along with all the original sensors.
He also didnt swap out the tranny that is why the starter is still to the right of the bellhousing.
The 2G 3SGE header/block casting is designed to clear the starter if mounted in that position because this engine was offered in more than just the Celica models overseas.....
