    Hi -

From time to time, when I first start up the car in the morning, my bulb out indicator, e-brake indicator, and my batter indicator light turns on and my voltage gauge is in the half way point...

after i drive for about 10 min., all the lights turns off and my voltage indicator goes up...

    any idea what causes this?

Have you had the alternator tested lately? Sounds like it's starting to go out.

I had similar problems on mine, turned out the currency regulator was shot. Bought a refurbished alternator and changed it. Worked just fine after that, apart from whenever I signal, or when the emergency lights are on, the volt needle is "jumping", with each blink. Anyone know what causes this...? Got my alternator from Ace alternators, you'll find them on Ebay.

i'll have my alternator tested then to see if that is the culprit...

Those 3 lights on at the same time is the actual diagnostic sign for the alternator charging weakly.

it could be that in the morning the cold air is condensing on the alternator making it charge weak and at around 10 mins, all the moisture evaporates and you get full charge. either way, replace the alternator.

I got the battery checked and alternator... both seemed to check out fine... I'm no longer having the battery and e-brake light on... however, my bulb out indicator light intermittently goes on/off when I have my park lights on... I tried to replace the front side markers and corner lights since one bulb of each was out... I thought that was the issue, but the bulb out indicator still lights up... but all my lights are working as it should...

    help please... thanks!

i'm not set with what my local parts store told me that my alternator is ok since my bulb-out light keeps flashing on/off...

will a bad alternator cause this???? should i replace all my bulbs even if there are all ok???

I think Marc is on the money here: change your alternator.
I had the same thing with the icons, despite my alternator showing full charge.
Swapped in a known good condition alternator and all was well again.

thanks... but when it does, do you have your lights turned on?

in my case, the bulb-out light only flashes when I have my park lights or head ligts on... it does not flash when any of my lights are off...

It was a long time ago but IIRC, it would have been with the headlights off.
The other thing you may want to check is that your grounds are good and there is no corrosion, even if the connections are tight. I've had some pretty funky electrical things going on due to corrosion build up. I hate electrical issues b/c they baffle me!

when you say grounding points, am I looking for the grounding points for the lights? any idea where those are? should I just look for wires that are bolted on the chassis?

what I can tell is that this has not been happening when I first got the car... this is a fairly recent occurence...

Check any connections to and from alternator and battery just to be sure.

your alternator will continue to be tested as fine until all of a sudden it goes kaput. i've had the same thing with two different st162s, one aw11, and one sw20. same symptoms for all those cars, all the same result.

finally able to replace the alternator... however, I am still getting the same result... the bulb out light keeps flashing on/off, but only when I have any exterior lights on... any other clues?

Anyone? It is really getting annoying that this bulb out light keeps going on/off...
Which grounding points should I look into???
