tail light/ wireing problem

Discussion in 'Electronics' started by ravensguildassason, Jul 2, 2012.

  1. +ok so i have an odd wireing problem it seems. now to start off i have a 1988 celica gt convertable and the tail light and wireing on the right side seems off. by that i mean the tail light on the right side only half of it lights up and it doesnt blink. then the rest of the right side seems like it has low voltage the windows are noticabley slower then the left. ( right equals passenger side.) if i have to i will re wire the whole car i just hate this it is very bad now. i think it may have started when the previous owner wired the rear window switches he had a total of four switches for the two windows. O_O i re wired them to the proper switches and now i dont have the short i did but i think it caused the wireing to fail.

  2. so here is what its doing lights on when i step on the break the right tails turn off. the left tails mostl;y work lol. i have tryed new lights to no avail.
i hope someone can help me with this problem.

woah, no responses to this yet? having a tough time understanding exactly the issue but...

if it were me i would pop the 3 interior panels out of the trunk so you can access both lights and the wiring between them. iirc its just + wires that go to the lights, then there grounded to the body back there. unscrew the grounds and clean them with sand paper or whatever, then re attach. next would be to check all the wiring for exposed copper. after that you could check light assembly itself. look in the sockets where the bulbs plug in, check for any corrosion in the socket (common), clean it then use some elecdtrical grease.

-that pretty much covers everything back there......

  5. yeah that was it they the screws where loose is all it was.

Both the right and left tail light assemblies get wires from the left side wiring harness.
