Sometimes (only sometimes) when I downshift and let out the clutch I hear a terrifying screetchy whine, like the clutch is spinning against the flywheel. And if I'm coming to a stop and disengage the clutch while moving slowly, there is a loud *thunk* and the whole car shudders. Anybody have an idea whats causing these noises? The clutch has about 40k miles on it, and there's plenty of fluid in the resevoir. My transmission can be unruly at times, second gear syncro is starting to go, at times I barely touch the shifter and it pops out of 3rd, and if I'm shifting fast, 5th doesn't always like to engage, so I'm pretty sure my tranny is on it's way out the door.
So should I just get a new clutch and tranny? it's incredible that nobody has any sort of comment about this.
I dont have much experience, but its possible if you pulled it apart you might find some damage tot he pressure plae ot something. Have you check your engien mounts for the possible clunk at stops? um ya, i dont have a ton of info, if you coudl get a better tranny for cheap might as well when u replace the clutch
Haven't checked the motor mounts yet, that's a good idea. Yeah, I'm probably just going to replace the tranny once I get enough money. Yesterday 1st gear ground as well which is new. Hooray!
I think the hoter weather is caustign the tranny grinds to start happening more, thinner oil in the case. I wanan add some sychno mes or whatever its call sometime soon
