S54 will bolt straight onto a 3SGE. I've done this swap twice now. Use your original clutch if you want, your cable speedo sender will bolt right in. Use the original ST162 drive shafts, engine mounts etc. Unbolt and transfer your original reverse light switch to the new gearbox.
nice, well the s54 is in my garage now. What RPM do you find yourself at in 5th @ 100km/h, 3000? What about starter motor? can you mount engine side and block the tranny side hole?
Using a gen 1 3SGE, you MUST use the original starter on the exhaust side, a gearbox side starter won't engage the teeth on the ring gear. From memory RPM @ 100km/h in 5th was around the 2800-3000 mark, around a 250rpm drop from standard IIRC but its been a long time since I've had a Celi on the road. This is with a 3.944 final drive, 4.176 final drive S54 gearboxes do exist
did u have to block off the trans side hole? p.s. North American s54 had a 4.176 final drive, doing the math with a .82 5th gear and stock 4th gen tires thats 99km/h at 3000 rpm. Id love to know why my car at 3000 rpm is turning like 94 if it has 3.994 and .82 it should be doing like 105... speedo problem, tack problem :? ?
