Today I have been renewing my center console switches of the convertible project car I got recently. To each switch, I sand the contacts and add some dielectric grease to prevent corrosion.

The top control switch was easy to take apart.

The cruise control switch was full of gunk. It has two circuit boards inside which I only cleaned and reassembled. I think I may relocate this seldom used on/off switch to the opening to the left of the steering wheel.

In its place I plan to put a pushbutton to activate the brake lights as well as an LED to show that the lights are flashing when activated by the BACKOFF XP module.

The mirror control switch was gunky and corroded too. It was a challenge to open. I then removed all the metal contacts which I sanded and covered in grease. I ran the plastic switch body under hot water for about 10 minutes to get all the gunk out.

I have already renewed the driver door and passenger door power window switches.

i still need to renew the rear quarter window switches and the power lock switches which look like a challenge to open

The verts have a switch at the rear of the center console to control a light to illuminate the back seat floorboard. I think I will rewire to use that switch as a fuel cutoff.

I will test all these switches this weekend when I get back to the shop where the project car is waiting for my attention.

Actually the vert quarter window switches were easy to take apart. See how much crap I got out of the plastic assembly. They will get the same renewing treatment.

that's pretty much what is needed to do to most sunroof and power window switches as well, good one!

I was looking at my 1987 BGB which has the cruise control button in the cutout just below the cigarette 12v port. I still think I will relocate it beside the instrument dimmer.
