Well ever since I owned this Trac the drivers side window has not gone up properly and sealed at the top. The top of the window would stick out about half an inch. This would only happen if I'm driving above about 50kph the wind would suck the window out the only way I could get it to close properly at speed was to either open the sunroof or passenger window to create a vacuum to suck the top of the window in as it is raised. The window motor is also making some noise so I'll inspect it and also remove and clean up and lubricate the door mechanism.

So to start with we got to get the door panel off.

1 screw behind the door curtesy light.

2 screws in the door handle and 2 scews in the door compartment.

1 screw in the door handle. You will also have to pry off the door lock bezzle if it hasn't allredy been broken.

This is the back of the outside door handle. I would advise against removing it unless you can easilly remove the 2 bolts. The bolt on the right has been removed to show that there is a threaded metal insert pressed/glued? into the plastic handle. Chances are the bolt has rusted and will rip the threaded insert out of the plastic handle.

There are 2 different types of clips used in the door mechanism. To remove this type of clip move the outside ring until it is beside the inside ring.

To release this type of clip push on the opening of the clip until it unlocks from the rod.

This is the inside of the exterior door handle. Rod A is the key lock, Rod B is the outside door handle, Rod C is the interior door handle and Rod D is the interior door lock. To disconnect Rod B from the door handle first unclip the connector (yellow arrow) and then pry on the end of the Rod in the dirrection shown by the green arrow. All other Rods easilly slide out of their connectors but Rod B requires a little extra force.

This is the door latch mechanism. I want to remove it and clean all the old oil/grease and dust/dirt out of it. The dust and dirt that gets stuck in the oil thickens it up and eventually adds to the resistance between parts.

    Once removed from the door.

I really hate rust so I took the time to sand all the rods 400 grit then 1000 grit then a rubbing compound and finally a metal polish.

Heres the door latch mechanism and all the points that you can oil.

Don't forget to get rid of all the junk that has accumulated in the bottom of the door. It's just going to trap moisture and promote rust.

Not bad for a 20 year old Canadian door. Make sure any drain holes are open.

Now onto the power window. I'll clean out all the old grease and put new synthetic grease in.

The problem I found with my window was that the 2 white plastic tabs on the bottom of the window were broken these act as hooks when the window is near the top they hook into guides (above them near the top of the window) and help pull the top of the window in towards the roof. Bar A in this picture is upside down. All other pieces are in their relative positions.

So now everyone can go out and tear their doors appart. The door latch mechanism definetly moves easier now that it has been cleaned up and re lubed. If you power door is not locking and unlocking properly you probably have to clean the latch. My passenger door wouldn't lock through the power switch until I cleaned and re lubed the mechanism. Now it works great.

I would not remove the piece of glass unless you really have to but before I got the car someone must have tried to break into it and had spread the inner and outer panels so I wanted to clamp them and close the gap so I took the glass out first.

Allready did it a long time ago on All Trac . net

In case you want to tear appart the drivers side switch I just did it because my passenger side window will go down through the drivers side switch but it will not go back up. The switch on the passenger side works in both directions. So heres some pics & tips for you.

    - be very carefull when disasembling the switch as there are alot of loose tiny little pieces that may fall out.

    - You will have to remove the drivers side window switch to get at the 2 screws on the left. Pry the little tabs appart gently that hold the switches pivot pin. The little springs and white plastic pieces may or may not come out with the switch. The little gold colored piece is an old jigsaw blade ground to replace the original plastic switch which seem to have a habit of breaking.
    - you do not have to remove the passenger side switch cover but if you want to just pull straight up on it it will snap off

    - pry off the cover for the lock out button. You unfortunatly need to remove the cover for the lock out button.
    - remove the 4 screws as indicated. See the following picture for all the little parts to watch for.
    - you can now remove the cover pictured below. Be very careful of the lockout button, once you remove the cover pictured below theres nothing securing it in place but unless you absolutely have to don't mess with the lock out switch. Theres a little spring in it that can be a real bugger. Wrap some masking tape around the switch to hold it in place while you have the cover off.

    - this is the same piece as pictured on the right of the cover in the picture above

    - this is where the 2 metal tabs 2 pictures above go

    - this is what were aiming at - be carefull these 2 pieces are loose

    - you want to clean the 8 points indicated in green. The 2 points in red can also be cleaned if needed but they should still look new.

Unfortunatly this did not fix my problem :x option 2 for me is to use the spare drivers door window module I have 8)

can you remove the window motor without taking out the whole assembly? tore down a spare door today and found i had to take it all out to get at the 3 screws on the back of the motor...

I'd say no - there's not enough clearance.
