We found out where the PS leak is coming from at school (had no intention to fixing it until I swapped my new engine in) but now my new landlords say I have to get the car off their property because apparently the tarp that is sitting under my car to catch the leaking fluid is; and I quote "tacky"...unbelievable.

So I was wondering if this is the typical PS leak that most of you are experiencing.

While the car was running I turned the wheel lock to lock and bubbles were coming out of that crimp fitting so that has to be where it is all coming out from; unless it is also leaking further down the line. So I am wondering if anyone knows of the part number so I can get a new one from Toyota or if someone knows of a better quality one and a similar price. Also, is it difficult to change this hose?

    Thanks a lot,

yes indeed skippy, those crimp fittings are the most common place to give out, and yes toyota can get you a new one... but save your lunch money.. it cost me 180 for two damn hard lines, i can imagine the flex lines arent much different... imo pull the whole damn system.... and reap the rewards of manual...lmao

Yeah, that's typical but mine never leaked from the crimps, just the hose itself. Doesn't really matter at this point though, your PS hose is done for. I wouldn't bother with OEM, too expensive. Jobber part will work fine, last time I priced them they were about $80 or do a custom built hose for much cheaper.

Wondering if you can get the fittings off with some vise grips or is there a tool that will work better?

lol Jon, I think I'll stick with the ps steering; imo it's the only useful "luxury" option.

Vice Grips will not work at all.
I use a hand grinder ( bench mounted one is better) and Dremel Tool and even the Dremel tool goes through 2 cutting discs.

Do you have those tools at your school shop?

Oh I mean to disconnect the hose from the pump and the hard line. Oh and noob question  ; how do you drain the fluid from the lines; is there some kind of drain plug on the pump?

^I used 2 crescent wrenches to get it off the hard line. I suppose Vice Grips would work but whatever you use, be careful not to twist/bend the hardline!

There is no drain on the PS pump.
You could siphon out the fluid from the reservoir, that would make it a cleaner job.

I just take it out full and dump it after. Messy but quick.

Shopped around today and everywhere I went did not have them, only one did and they would have to back order one from the states; it'd be a while. I tried the dealership and it was $291.xx + tax for it  . So I think I am best off to do a custom one; a guy at Lordco said there's a place here but didn't know exactly where so I gotta look around.

I have the car on jack stands as of now but how the heck do you get to the nut on the bottom end of the hose; top one is easy but I can barely get my hand to the other end let alone get a ratchet/wrench in there.

    Any advice would be super!

    Thanks.

You gotta remove the PS pump first, then detach the hose on a bench.
Lordco is supplied by the place I go to: Greenline.

I think everyone with this problem has tried to reach that top banjo bolt. I've tried multiple extensions bars, U-joints, swivel joints, flex-head wrenches, etc. Even tried it from underneath lying on my back reaching up through the cross members and behind the motor. Frankly, I don't believe it's possible :(

drop the suspension member and the pass cv, remove intake stays, shouldnt be too hard after that...

suspension member = left to right cross brace, intake stays are two annoying rods from the intake to the side of the block
