Hey all... I know the 3S-FE doesn't have much to upgrade but if I were to install an aftermarket header would I receive more horsepower? And if not horsepower, would I get any other improvements? Every engine I have ever tunned has benefited from better breathing, be it an 850cc Mini engine, a 5 cylinder Audi 2.1 turbo lump or a 3.5 litre V8. The gains that can be seen, depend upon the stock design, but if you can marry a performance header with a good exhaust system, and improve the flow of air into an engine, you can see increases. The key to getting the most from any increase, is to make sure your key ingredients are tip top, ie electronics, are you sparking strongly and at the best time. Is the fuel to air mixture the best it can be? ie clean injectors, un clogged filters etc. If it were me fitting an aftermarket header, I would heat wrap it, I know it looks ugly, but Heat management does bring benefits. Sometimes fitting a header can change the way the engine develops torque, moving it either lower or higher though the rev range. A lot of drivers will claim a performance increase, as the engine can rev more freely, and feel more agressive on WOT. HTH helps mate.

My small exhaust upgrade will be done soon, I can let you know how it goes. Currently, it's stock mani,>stock DP>custom GT-S back with GT-S muff. Project will be OBX header with deleted stock cat>stock DP>custom GT-S back, added magnaflow cat with GT-S muff. I don't plan to wrap the header, but if it's too hot and there's more heat soak it will get wrapped. I don't know it just an experiment, we'll see how it goes I don't plan to do much else with this motor platform. -K
