Im in the process of dropping the trans out of the car. Ive got the axles out (suprisinglly cooperative) and the motor mounts unbolted/bolt out. Im under the car and looking the for bolts that hold the trans to the engine, I can see some 14 mm on the back side of the engine, 2 of them, but Im wonderign what bolts need to come off to free the trans?

    Thanks,

I put this in general hoping it would get noticed faster, mods can please move it once theres been some input.

there is 4 main 17 mm blots holding it on, and i think like 2 or 3 14mms if you can wiggle that trannie, youve got all the bolts, remember to unbolt the dust cover too. pretty much man, pry that bitch out, not excessive to bend parts, but work your way around the trans and she'll pop off. shes a bit seized in there...

ok ive been struggling for a few hours now, I got all the bolts out, 7 of them. Ive wiggled it out about 1.5-2 inches but not it seems that its snagged near the rear motor mount. Ive unbolted the motor mounts from the cross-member the one near the rad has slid off the crossmember, but the back one seems to want to pull back the the orignal position when i pry it. Is there anything you can think of to check/try?

keep in mind buddy, there is dowl pins that also hold that trannie on... i think there is two or 3, the toyota way to do it is to pull the trannie out a ways and twist it towards the firewall.. keep at it man you'll get her, look it over good, the input shaft can also hold it in. so try to make sure its level when your wiggling it off.. keep me posted

ok, found the problem, the metal gasket I assumed would be attacked to just hte tranny but it it was keeping the trans form letting go, i took 12 an 10 mm bolt off the bottom and bam, its off. Im still struggling to it out of the car, i need to angle it more or something, ill figure it out tomorrow. my motor mounts are gayed too so ill probably make some poly ones while im at it. Thnaks for the help

did you disconnect the slave cylinder?
push on the clutch fork while you have the trans supported. it may be the throwout bearing stuck on the pressure plate.

doh got here too late. IIRC you have to twist the hell out of that trans to get it out.

Heheh and now you know why in my list I said disconnect everything trans related first :p Glad you got it out though. FWIW, I normally support the engine from above and drop both crossmembers out, makes it a lot easier.

yup thats what i ended up doing, but the core support to front crossmember will need to be tapped cuz the old nut broke off inside.
