Ok, i think I am dumb. I have installed multiple head units in multiple cars but cannot get this one to go in right. Haha, maybe I should use more lube....

Anyways, I bought an installation kit that uses a platic cage with plastic brackets and got it installed but it never sat correctly. It didnt help that someone previously had hacked part of the dash trim around the stereo.

Now I got a new center trim piece and the brackets for the stock stereo but how do I get those to mount to my aftermarket one properly? Does anyone have any pics? I know this is considered ISO mounting but I can't get it to work. Help!!

Oh god.....you don't even need an installation kit for our cars lol....

Take off the plastic trim all around the radio, there's a bunch of screws behind your glove box, on the bottom at the sides, at the top by your gauge cluster, in your ashtry holder spot....

Then there are 2 metal brackets, unscrew them, screw them to your head unit, screw your head unit back in place, bam, done.

Make sure the wirings done before you screw it back in though :D

That's exactly what I ended up doing but it still isnt fitting properly. It seems like the center dash piece is angled but the head unit whats to install straight.

The plastic piece probably isnt installed correctly.

couple options here, i had the same problem. good news is its not a problem i think i just mounted it incorrectly. Check the placement of the brackets on the side of the unit and then make sure you are lining the unit and bracket up right on the car part(black pointy things go in a whole on the bracket). I cant remember how i fixed it or did it wrong but i think it is the placement of the bracket on the unit. Also the brackets have L and R on them for left and right.

Yep, i had the exact same problem also when i was using bent welded brackets, then i got the stock brackets, and had no problems.
You've probably screwed the head unit onto the brackets using the wrong holes on the brackets.

yes its a common problem. i am guilty of over-anxious installation and fucking up the position of the head unit. my faceplate couldnt fold down after i installed it because of the damn trim. had to repull the interior and mount it more forward. now it works good and looks awesome. off a little bit and i have no cd pocket below the stereo but its cool.

Finally got it to work! :D

Now I just need to get a pocket that fits properly. I had the mounting kit that included the pocket but that won't work when using the oem brackets. Oh well.

thats a popular choice. a few friends of mine have a second head unit for an equalizer. still dunno how it works like that. but whatever.

I have enough money into my head unit already without buying an EQ. Besides, the internal EQ should be better than just about any external that would be decently priced.

The dude that owned my GTS must have gotten beaten on the head with a brick before installing the HU. I bumped it once, and now the fucking thing sits crooked, like the left side bracket broke or something...or just was never attached properly to begin with. Wooo! Course, he also couldn't figure out which wires went to the left and right speakers, or that shit needs to be grounded, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

Ha! To use the stock eq the car would have needed to have it in it when I bought it. Otherwise I could be rocking the live sound!

now if that eq was a pocket or especially the cupholders we might be in business!

The factory cupholders were in the center glove box, not under the stereo. However, cupholders from early 90's Ford/Mercury sedans fit nicely under a single DIN headunit.

I have a nice old Alpine EQ that I plan on uninstalling as soon as it warms up, if you need one.

OK, so thats where the cupholders come from that fit in the din space. Might have to find me an old sable or something that has them.

I really do not need an equalizer but i will take aftermarket amp donations :D
