BTW the most diffecult things about our engine is that each forum are prideful of their 3sgte like this forum we will say 1st gen are the best 3sgte but on a 5gen celica they will claim 2nd gen is the best 3sgte.

where is the proof. i can show you all day where the single entry makes more power. it just spools slower. and we don't have the best GTE. frankly, not 1 generation does. each has their benefits and fall backs.

and find 1 place on the net that has any kind of reputation that says side feed injectors are superior.
the compression is different because of the head, not the block. the only difference in the block is thickness in certain areas. that's it.

Well if you put it that way you made a stronger argument. As for as I know the newer parts like twin entry and side feed are better because it is a new technology. Also I thought compression was base off of pistons and block size. Never really heard it from the head. Well I believe you on this as I do not have much experience on the 3sgte. So i can not say which is better but have the support that newer technology are better. :D

One of the reasons I will not transplant to a ST205 engine, is my belief in the block and tuning potential of the Gen 1 engine.
I run 280bhp on a 100k stock bottom end which gets thrashed on track. a stock St205 blew its dipstick out with just a boost controller having only done 67k. as said each has there plus and minus.

Like I mention before the hardest part about the 3sgte is the 1st gen are rare to come by, more rare with people who actully have experience with it. Every other 3sgte owner I've seen or known have a 2nd gen or 3rd. That is why I've only heard things about the newer gen not ours and they when I ask they all say it sucks :x Never really explain it but its outdated. Then again is a good thing I have you guys lol been great.

I will not lie, modding the first gen is an expensive troublesome business.

Off the shelf parts are limited in the UK modding my engine is almost un heard off..BUT, just because its tough, does not mean its not worth while.
The std ecu compared to the gen 3 onwards is poor, thats why I went with my Haltech, but once you get past the ecu issue, there are lots of nice benefits from the gen 1. cheap cam upgrade from the st162, the injectors as mentioned by Mafix are much much easier to come by, I use Evo 6 ones, cheap as chips and a known quantity

The std charge cooler will cope with 1 bar off boost and about 250bhp, try that with the St185 ata inter warmer.
all my mods bar the steel hg, arp head bolts and fidanza flywheel are bolt on and dont require engine out.

I am not a fan off the gen 1 gearbox however, the ratios for me are to spread out and I was never happy with 3rd gear. A gen 3 or short ration gen 2 box is a great upgrade, and I run just a std OEM st205 clutch, which has been great so far.

The whole thing about the different gens of 3sgte is very subjective, but due to the scacity of modded Gen4 celicas with original Gen 1 based engines, a lot of people just write the lump off.

In the UK, there are maybe 5 gen 1 powered ST165s I can think off, the rest have later engines in. The stock line almost with uk GT4 guys is."got a ST165?, Rip out the engine, box, brakes, suspension subframe etc and replace with ST205 stuff" not saying that's not a way to go, but its NOT the only option, and it certainly isn't the best in every case. ;) ;)

That is also true about our engine is the aftermarket bolt on. As aftermarket parts are more gear toward the newer gen 3sgte. which is a bumper but I've also been a fan of custom parts, that way you learn more :D anywasy haltech? how hard was it to tune? I wouldn't mind a stand-alone but after all I am not very interested in engine mod as of now, need alot of body work done first but I am considering for future refences.

look how many gen1s exsist. 5000. not worth makeing parts for such a limited run car.
gen2s have well over 200000 cars it is used in.
gen3s are around the 100000 mark
gen4 is just as hard if not harder to get parts for then the gen1
