I decided I was going to try and see the crap I'm allways hitting on the road this year so I put in a set of H4 lights. I went with the DOT version which I have read is not as good a beam pattern as the European Projector lights but its legal in North America.

So I got the "DOT" stamped on the lense so if I get pulled over I don't have a hassle. I did however upgrade from the H4 60/55W bulbs to a H4 100/90W bulb which gives me 100 watts high beam and 90 watts low beam.

I also picked up a set of 100 watt 4" lights that I'll put in place of the original fog lights.

So as I changed over to the H4 lights I took some pics to compare the H4 light to the original sealed beam unit.

The middle 2 pics are probably the best for comparison as you have a sealed beam unit on the left and an H4 unit on the right. The H4's are definetly putting out more light. On my Camry I have the GE NightHawk lights which I find are also a lot better than stock.

The headlights ran me about $50 with shipping and the running lights were about $30. I'll wire the new running lights to a couple of old plugs I have cause the Trac is allready wired for running lights.

But it is different..and if you had a dark colored car, i think it would look good.

Well apparently even though they are DOT lights they still have the European Projector beam pattern. They were advertised as "200mm H6054 H4 DOT EURO CONVERSION HEADLIGHTS KIT". So thats a bonus. So if anyone else is interested heres a link to the store on e-bay.

H4 lights are standard here in Europe. I even changed to 8000K xenon with clear headlights...that's a difference ! I'll search some pics for ya.

I have some spare H4 headlights at home. Willing to trade, still looking for the cruise control which is common with you but not over here..

There seems to be a control unit in your middleconsole? So not on the steeringwheel itself, as I don't like that unless it is as mint as my black turbo steeringwheel..but I'm looking for a compleet setup.

hey guys. i was just wondering if the h-4's are direct plug and play lights for our cars. i have a set of piaa h-4 135/120w super plasma gt-x bulbs part#15962 here at work and i can get them (its a 2 pack) for about $65. they are super clean looking but i just wanted to make sure before i decided to grab them.

Well if you still have stock headlights they are sealed units so on top of the pia bulbs you will have to buy conversion glass lenses for about $25 a set and most will come with bulbs.

Yes I got the glass lenses and the H4 bulbs. I was really only after the lenses because I was going to go the $200 route and get a 4000K xenon HID system but I'll see what the H4 headlights will do plus I got a set of driving lights as well so tommorrow I'll see how much light both headlights and driving lights put out.

120 watt bulbs can melt your housing, don't go there :)

oh verry nice. i see. hmmm so maybe those piaa h-4 arent the best way to go then for light gain eh? i did find out however that all piaa bulbs are DOT approved. so no worries there. thanks for the help. micht still get the piaas maybe a different set though.

ok i see how it works now. i did not know we had sealed lights like that. that is funny. hey st165-2765 your kit you bought came with a wiring harness correct? or is that not how the swap works? all the kits i have seen, minus the xenon ones, only show the lenses and bulbs. and i have only found one set of lenses that are dot approved. some are really sheap too. like 5 bux, then 11 for shipping. but ebay ratings for those guys sux. i am sorry for the lack of my knowledge in this thread. i thought all cars were just bulbs like that. silly me.

    H4's

i have H4's thier 7500k and are 130/120w they are really clear and they dont melt you light housing because thier UV Coated to stop that if you buy cheap bulbs they gennerally use a slack coating of uv protection and hence melt your light housing. i love these bulbs need to test mine at night though have tested them in the rain they rule in the rain but at night i heard they improve you response time to the road
