My gas pedal sticks when I first start the car. It also seems slow to release after it has been depressed. I have thoroughly cleaned the throttle body and it still sticks. What could be the problem?

Thats normal these cars just like to go faasssttttttt.... :D ....................

    Okay just kidding

It could be a weak spring, or a kink or rust in the cable or perhaps the pivot point on the pedal itself is binding or someting is interfearing with the movement of the pedal, there is a counterweight on the back of the pedal perhaps it is hitting some wires or something.

Disconnect the cable at the throttlebody and see how easilly the pedal moves back and forth.

It seems as though its the throttle body itself sticking. It looks like I just need to find a replacement.

get some silicone spray lub. Spray the pivots of the pedal, and all the exposed cables. work the lub in you should be ok. mine use to be stick but after that it was slick as a hot knife through butter. Now that its -27! (god damn it), that pedal has stiffened up a bit

Take off the intake hose and look inside the throttlebody. Check how easilly the butterfly valve moves inside the throttlebody. You may want to get a can of carberator cleaner to clean deposits of varnish/gun that may be present in the throttlebody/butterfly valve and posing a problem.

The inside is already clean as a whistle, that was my first thought as to why the pedal is sticking.

I had the same issue before- The problem was on the throttle body, under the spring for the Throttle cable there is a plastic guide that goes all the way around the cable- make sure its not broken cause it will catch on the throttle cable.. Well hope that helps.

That sounds about how it feels. I will have to look into that. I have tried to lube that rotate point because that is where it feels like the problem is, but it has done no good so far.

Well I have lubed it up and it is better but still not fixed. It seems to be some play in the TB that is causing it. I am hoping that once the car is driven daily that it will fix itself. It has been sitting for a good 5 years before I bought it.

if you have cruse controll remove the black case and tehre are 2 more cables and hinges and stuff to lube, its likly from sitting, get all the movign parts with lube, the hinger under the dash on the fire wall, anywhere you can and pump it a few times. Sorry if im jsut repeating myself, but it fixed my pedal stick. GL
