I've been wondering what the exact capacity was for our cars? I've been filling up from empty to full at about 10.5 gallons but since I've never run her dry I never bothered to check. The reason is because I've been recording my miles per tank during my now 30 mile commute between Tacoma and Renton. My last tank got me 363 miles. Assuming I've been running off the 10.5 gallons that I filled up thats 34.57 miles per gallon. My lowest so far has been 310 miles and highest so far was 383. That 383 was the tank I filled up with Redline SI-1.
I tried running her dry. Needle stayed on empty for the longest time. I think I almost had 12 gallons. Weird, since many sites say it has a 14 gallon capacity? I'd like to know how much fuel the engine has in reserve.
I've read my tank is 60Litres = 15.9 Gallons Guess the fuel pump takes up a couple? Makes sense to me, Fuel light comes on when i've used 45L / 11.9 Gal I can get at least 150km on the fuel light taking it real easy Driving fast or slow get about 10km/L great stuff cheap to run and good fun
It is a 15.9 gallon tank. Both the BGB and the Manual indicate as much. There is no reserve. When you run out of gas it is because there is no gas for the pump to scavange and use to pressurize the line. So there is gas between the pump and the injectors, but hydraulic pressure is lost and it can't be forced out when the injector opens up. So the moment the engine lurches for the last time during fuel exhaustion is the moment you just went through 15.9 gallons. I've done over 425 miles on that tank. That's the highest I can remember. These days I don't measure it.
i think they meant reserve as in the amount that's left when the fuel light comes on, mine comes on after 45L from full, so i guess it's toyota's way of saying it's "empty" but there's a grace period?
It's a Toyota thing - I've owned seven, and five of them have had a guage that read flat empty with a quarter of a tank still left. (the Hilux gauge was pretty accurate, the other one was an AE82 Corolla, it's fuel guage didn't actually work :lol )
I never ran mine till dry, but the max I made was about 49 liters and the reserve light was on for almost 100km(+-60miles). I used to own old diesel cars and the thought of running dry on an old diesel is like running with low oil. Nontheless, I think in my owners manual it says the tank has a capacity of about 44L+reserve (thats about 8 liters).
