    Clutch:
Is it normal for the pressure plate to have many small machining ridges on the plate face?
Is ASCO an OEM manufacturer for Toyota?
Clutch plate seems thinner and has less material than i imagined, am I crazy?

    Trans:

Is it easyer/possible to drop the trans leaving the engine in place?

    Thanks dudes

if your talkiong about the face of the pres plate that meets the clutch, then nooo it should not any grooves or ridges of any sort. i dont know how stage 2 and ^ are but for oem.. no. as for asco, ive never heard of them. toyota makes all their own parts, thats why oem stands for original equipment manufactures. and as for dropping the trans with the engine in, its possible, but. .its kinda a bitch to do. and you practicly will take the engine out doing it (except fpr 1 engine mount) imo just drop the whole damn thing, save time....

ive never seen anyone drop a tranny in a fwd car with the engine still in it...on purpose. :p im sure its possible. but i always hear horror stories of trannies and swapping them, so good luck. are u not changing the pressure plate? a clutch kit should include a disc, bearings, and pressure/cover plate, and centering tool. oem should be stamped with exedy/aisin/*something else* aisin is the manufacturer for toyota products. toyota throws a stamp on it and its now oem. exedy and aisin are partners so you can trust them. heres some info on it http://www.aisin.com/news/business/01070302.html. enjoy@ :D

definately is possible and a lot people do it with the engine still in, for some cars its a time saver especially for motors smaller than 2 litre for example in a fwd corolla it is really easy to once you have cvs out, engine mounts off etc, and jack down the trans/motor on one side with one person just lift the gearbox out from the top. also get a new rear main bearing seal while you have the box out, if you put the trans back on with new clutch your not going to be happy when trans oil starts to leak and you have to pull the gearbox out again to replace the seal for only about 10 USD, you may as well, on old cars u should do bout every 50,000 k's i think??
