ok so i was driving to work today and bamn while im on the freeway, all my gauges go dead and the stereo turns off, when i get to work, and turned the engine off, of course it wont come back on, but when i open the door, the dome light still comes on and the beep you hear when you key is in the ignition but no power anywhere else in the car, any ideas anyone?

    First suspect is a fuse

i understand but what fuse can control all of those pieces of electronics? the dash, headlights, turn signals, power to the starter to start the engine, etc?

Something similar happened to me like that once. It was the alternator blowing out and the car's electrical systems were being run off the battery until that was quickly drained. You may get some intermittent or residual electrical current after the battery has sat for a few moments, hence the dome light, etc, coming on. My guess is the alternator.

Cliff notes: first check alternator and then re-charge battery (b/c it's been drained).

well i checked the smaller multi-colored fuses and they looked good, i cant tell if anything is wrong with the altenator, but the battery is a die-hard platnium 800cca battery, its meant to start suv's with hella electronics so i dont understand ater a couple hours a sitting how it cant even turn the radio on, so something to me just does not add up. i can lightly assume its something with wiring but i do not know

If yo boost the car can it start? If it does, buts then dies when you remove the cables you would most likely have a dead alternator.

were there any other things that happened other than a mysterious shot? in my corolla the car would jolt and the revs were jumping up and down. it was nasty getting home. if i stopped at all the car would die. radio would shut off, couldnt even run the headlights. it would just die. but if it was jerking or anything flickering or what not then i would say alternator. or make sure your cap and dizy are all good. check plugs and wires for shorts. i have had weird shit happen to me. had a plug shoot out of the well 6 months after changing the spark plugs. and i dont mean it wasnt screwed in... the plug shot out and got stuck in my wire. car sounded like ass.

as i figured the jump didnt work, nothin changed, is there any specific fuses i should look into that might be the culprit? i mean for one thing, it happened right after i turned my cd player off because my cd was skipping, does that mean anything?

It doesn't matter how powerful your battery is. If the alternator dies, your can run off the battery but it'll drain any battery pretty darned quick; Die-Hard or not.

PS - You might also check the fusible links and reset any breakers.
