Hello everyone, I'm stripping down my E151F box from a 93' ST185 to convert into FWD for my GT2 project and I ran into a snag. I am having trouble removing the torx bolts retaining the plate holding the shafts between 4th and 5th (shown below). So far I have tried a crappy quality T-47 Torx socket but the socket twisted out of shape before the bolt even budged, I guess thats what I get for buying dodgy tools. Tomorrow I am going to get a good quality socket but does anyone have any tips? Thanks everyone!
Make sure it's the right size. Put some anti-seize in there. Just a FYI, not sure if it's different but my e153 actually had T45 sized ones, not T47.
Thanks for the tips guys, Hopefully with your advice I'll have it off today. I'll keep you posted. Thanks
that plate is normal to have the screws stuck. the only fix if the impact driver does not work is to drill them. esraceing gets new bolts everytime tears into an e series trans. (he is my trans guy, fyi)
Those screws are to keep amateurs out! - lol It's a common problem and yes you must replace them Here's my method - A reverse drill bit, note the locktite Please post pics of what you're doing, not much info to compare with on these boxes. I'd esp like to see your syncro's and selector rings Count the teeth on the gears and divide by the secondary shaft #, ie 47/45= 1.044 Do that for all the gears as I'd like to confirm ratios between boxes and markets etc
GREAT SUCCESS!! Thanks for all the posts guys! Before posting I had tried an impact drive with no success. I ended up using a pin punch and a big old hammer. A few whacks on the pin punch in the center of the bots is enough to crack the locktite. After that a T45 Torx socket and a nice sized breaker bar got the job done for me. The box is now all back together and looking great. Thanks again. PS. Sorry Stig I got the box back together before I saw this post!
