How the heck do you guys get the CV axle back into the tranny for the 3SGE (splined shafts)?!
I've been struggling with the driver's side CV axle for the past hour. Any tricks or tips appreciated! Help!

    Re: Help Needed! CV Axle

push her in rick, theres a little clip on the half shaft, by pushing it you compress the clip until it snaps into its place. just give her a good push... maybe a rubber mallet if your really fighting with it...

    Re: Help Needed! CV Axle

Yeah, the CV axles in my 165 were allen bolts, tedious, but much easier.

Got the CV axle in maybe about halfway or so, it's dark now, so I packed it in for today.
God, this is one of the frustrating jobs on the 3SGE!
    I'll try again tomorrow....

imo the fe's are the worst... 6 10mm bolts a bitch to get a wrench in there....

    Re: Help Needed! CV Axle

^The 3SFE is similar to the 6 Allen bolts on the 165 CV axles. That was easy as pie compared to my frustrating efforts today :x
I'll have to see if I can find a Special Service Tool / CV puller or slide hammer. Maybe tomorrow will bring success :)

a good old rubber mallet should do the trick, just give her a hit, she'll pop in

    Re: Help Needed! CV Axle

I'm feeling rather defeated, so I really appreciate the encouragement.
Tomorrow, I'll make sure it's lined up straight and try to tap it in with a hammer.
    Thanks

GE axles are a BITCH! slide it in, make sure it's straight and hit it with a deadblow. it's hard to do without help.

    No success yet :(
    I read this tip:
"...Put the axle in the tranny, and the other end in the spindle. Grab the rotor at 9 and 3 o'clock and use it to shove the
axle into the tranny. It will pop right into place...." ~Squareback

Gonna give that a try now...

    Re: Help Needed! CV Axle

Hurray! Finally got 'er done
I lined it up again (gotta make sure it's as straight as possible!) and tapped it in (gently!) with a regular hammer.
Checked that the axial play was within spec (2-3mm) and now just have to take a test drive, but it all looks good.

I used some lube on the spline ends, as per the BGB.

That was a PITA, thanks for the help guys :)
