so i got my clutch changed at the clutch mart here in sacramento, california. seemed like the right place to go to. they specialize in clutches since 1990, and have heard great reviews. made my appointment with the exedy clutch kit i purchased off of ebay. made sure the clutch kit would work with the guys from clutch mart. had the car taken in at 8 on saturday. get it back at 12 in the afternoon. total cost for the labor was a little less than 350. better than the 500 they wanted when using their parts. so i am driving, the car is different. placement on the pedal is lower, much lower than before. no problem. pedal is a lot softer now too. i can live with that. i know every clutch is different so i was expecting that. then i drive onto the freeway. so im going about 50 mph about to get on and i take my foot off the accelerator and as soon as i do i hear a humming sound, rather loud. its sort of hard to describe but its almost a whine/grind/buzz. so im upset. this happens now when i go to shift into a new gear at higher speeds/rpms. anything over 3k, which i shouldnt be shifting pass anyways but it didnt do this before. so i am thinking ok, maybe the break in period includes odd sounds, but it just doesnt sit right with me. the place closed after i picked up my car,, so i couldnt call back. they were closed today on sunday so i will be calling first thing tomorrow morning when i get a chance. this sound isnt going away. the worst part of all is that my parts and service arent warrantied because i brought in my own parts. so i am hoping that they will do something about it and not shaft me. has anyone else experienced something like this? if i take my foot of the accelerator real quick at high speeds it will do it and it lasts for a while, bu if i put it back on the sound goes away. if i take it off at high speeds and then let the car lose its momentum it gradually gets quieter. it only happens sometime when i shift gears at high rpms and its only when i push in the clutch when shifting. as soon as i release it the sound is gone. so weird. not happy at all.

what type of clutch are you using? is it the exedy vers of oem or like a stage 1, 2, 3 ect. .. if its a staged clutch your pedal should get a lot harder. on a oem clutch the springs around the center of the disk are used to prevent "chattering" juring start off and shifting... they absorb the torque from the twisting of the press plate mating with the clutch. most staged disks dont have these... thus noise and hard pedal are a symptom. and the fact shes an ebay jewel doesnt help, what type of material id the friction lining made of? that also can affect sound...

its an exedy oem style. not sure what the compound of the clutch is made of, but yeah. its not really a chatter. i'll try and see if i can get some sort of sound clip or video of it if at all possible.

yup the kit included bearings, cover, disc, and they resurfaced the flywheel too.

sounds like a typical aftermarket throwout bearing to me. drive it for a thousand miles or so and see if it's any better.

ok so i called and tried to explain the noise to one of the guys there, and of course he said that I should bring the car in right away if at all possible. so now i am going to see if i can take it to them at all tomorrow and see what they say. hopefully it is something like you said mafix and its just part of a break in period or something simple. thanks for the help guys. much love!
