    SH*T!

-well something is different. as you can see in the pics 3 bolt holes are the same. the ones on top and the one toward the front of the car. the 4th is not the same. you can see the difference in the comparison pic. there is also a small bump out on the new one that will interfere with the engine mount. pretty sure it can be made to work though.

-so the question is this....are the ge and gte covers the same? or did the mr2 turbo come with a gen 2 gte? or is the mr2 gte different because of mounts or something? either way it looks like the timing belt cover #3 (the steel one behind the gears) will need to be swaped for whatever is correct so it matches. hopefully its same gen with a different cover. still waiting on gears anyways so ill end up getting all the parts and doing it all at once.

-to bad i was getting all jacked up to drive it to work today as its clear skys.

-its definetly (sp?) workable and i think its gonna end up looking great.....also another great reason to ditch the p.s. system.

That bolt hole is different coz the gen 2 gtes have hydrauli tentioners (atleast some did) it will also be why the shape is differenr. im thinking of re-routing my ps lines rather then ditch it all togethere

    -2 p.s. lines...soon. :mrgreen

-its almost dripped its last drop. plus with the right mr2 parts i may be able to lower, push back, and hide the alternator. bay clean up ahoy!

Got your message Jon and will look into it - I bought Gen2 GTE and Gen3 GTE heads this week but need to pick them up

I had some gen1/2 covers powder coated recently and didn't see any difference

    The MR2 SW20 has a gen2 GE/TE or later models have Gen3 GE/TE which is what I think
    you have here

The gen3 motors have hydralic tensioners and a different shaped cover, engine mount looks different too

    Gen 2 GE or gen2 SW20?

Either way I could find some plates but you need the lower cover too.
Me - I don't even use all those bolts and the covers are modded for easy removal and airflow

Not advisable - but I like it and I can get to the belt in seconds

My gen2 plate is still at the powder coaters, looks like I'll ditch this setup in favour of the gen2 or 3 GTE head

-it says gen 2 for sw20 and celica all-trac. so it must be for the gen2 motor.

-im pretty sure if i get the steel cover i can mod it to fit the gen1 head (if needed), and then just dremmel the tab of the clear cover to fit the bottom. its really really close, i could probably make it work without the one bolt, but i dont want it to rattle.

    Yep, you're right - gen2
