Building an Emergency headlight circuit

So I´ve narrowed down my headlight problem on my 88 GT Vert to a bad switch, but I need the car tomorrow and all next weekend. Here´s the way to do an emergency fix on the cheap.

In the engine bay open the fusebox and locate the headlight relay. Disconnect the battery. Remove the relay. Notice there are 4 connectors on the fuse block where the relay plugs in Strip a 12 gauge wire and feed the bare end into the small connector closest to the driver side fender. Carefully push the relay back into place making sure the spade on the relay seats with the connector and pulling the wire into the connector.

Run that wire through the firewall (or if in a real hurry out of the engine bay through the door frame) and connect that wire to a disconnect type flip switch similar to a fog light switch (mine was rated at 20 amps - but you just connected to the low amp side of the relay so your really not pulling alot of amps). Mine cost $3.50. Connect the OTHER side of the switch to another wire and run that wire to a ground (Possibly to one of the nuts on the plate holding the steering column to the firewall). Connect the battery. Voila, Headlights work!

To get the taillights working go under the driverside kick panel and locate the relay marked ´B´on the diagram. If you don´t have a diagram, it´s the round relay closest to the firewall. Disconnect the battery. Pull the relay, there are four connectors here as well. Locate the bottom right (closest to the floor, nearest to the firewall) connector and perform the wire in the connector procedure similar to what you did earlier. Snap off the tab on the side of the relay that would be closest to the firewall to allow the a wire to exit the side of the relay connector.

Take the other end of that wire and connect it to the same side of the switch as the headlight wire from earlier. Connect battery and you have all of the following - Headlights, side markers (front and rear), taillights, dashlights for gauges.

After all that disconnect the battery. Mount the switch making sure the wires are clear of all moving parts interior and exterior, also making sure to properly mark the wires so you know what goes where. Reconnect the wires, connect the battery, and your take a test drive.
