So wondering wot air con do i have (88 JDM convertible)? Previous owner said i have OLD liquid type and would cost about £200 to upgrade to NEW gas type PLUS new seals. My air con not working, so thought take this opportunity to upgrade. What air con type did your cars have in now (and originally)?
We've discussed this in depth many times before but they're all gone to thread heaven? The gen4 uses R12 gas which was replaced by R13 in the 90's - R12 is now outlawed in many countries. See if Halford's still sells R12 refill kits, if not you will need to convert your system You can run R13 in a R12 system after a proper clean, but usually the oil, seals, drier needs changing and the filler valves are bigger. The R13 gas works better with an R13 compressor and R13 expansion valve (IN the dash) but most get away with a cheapie conversion and it works adequately for normal use Whats good about R13 is that if it does leak it won't eat the ozone layer but there's already talk of it being replaced by an even better gas
Thank u! That's good to know - so its just a case of finding R12 (if still legal) and do a complete aircon service. Else its an upgrade to R13 - which would cost a bit £££
pm Alwayzsidewayz, he had Halford refill kits and I wanted him to send me one but NZ would go into a state of emergency if they knew I'd imported some. Since then I've bought a 202 pump and swapped the valves but still haven't got it gassed after I was quoted $1200 to convert my car NZ - where you can marry a fag but you can't smoke one
