3sgte swap wiring

I am working on my 3SGTE swap into my ST162. I have had it at a shop for a year, and the only thing they were able to do was get the old engine out and the new one in. They threw their hands up at the wiring. Now with the engine in place, I am attempting to do handle the wiring on my own. I am am planning on sending the harness to Tweak'd, but I have to get it all out first. Right now I have both ends completely removed, and I am down to the portion of the harness that is near the TVIS.

My question is this: Is it necessary to take the TVIS or throttle body off in order to remove this section of the harness?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

I got it out. The Intercooler and throttle body both had to be removed in order to get the harness out from this area. There were also a few plugs that had to be accessed from under the car. They were not easy to get to. again if this work had been done prior to the engine being installed, it would have been better.

When I pulled the 3sge out, I disconnected the loom from the ECU, pulled it out of the firewall and pulled the motor. I did the same from the 3sgte harness. After, I installed the modified harness onto the 3sgte, installed the motor and then re-connected through the firewall to the ecu.

The motor install was fairly painless, as the blocks are basically the same. As for the wiring, I had someone working on it that hit a wall, and determined that the wiring was above their skill level. I have been in contact with Phoenix Tuning or Tweak'd, and as long as I have the GTE harness and the GE harness, they will make me a plug and play for $400. Not too bad. I will post more when I am further down the road. As for the generation. I have a 1987 GTS, and I am using the 2nd Gen or ST185 engine. Mostly due to cost. The 3rd gen tho more power, was a bit more than I wanted to spend at the time.

all of this has been on a whim anyway. I purchase my GTS from an alley for the low low price of $250. Changed out the shocks, springs, tires, and rims. then proceeded to race it in SCCA AutoX Solo II. It did really well for such a bargin basement car, but the 200,000miles on the original engine did not hold up to the abuse. The original engine went up in smoke, and in came the 3SGTE. It has been two years since I started, though I am not on the task every day by any means. I am searching for as much torque as I can get and what ever HP goes along with that, all on a very tight budget.

    I will post pics later.

sweet! start up a ride thread in the "your 4th gen beauty" section! we'd love to see what this race car is like and the build so far of the 185 motor. i've also heard that the 2nd gen gte has more potential than the 3rd gen gte when upgraded, so you may be on a win-win situation based on cost/benefit
