Possibly. It's hard to say. Depends on how the transmission was maintained, etc. Some people have had it last for a while, others it exploded on them when they hit boost.
It will work just fine, only the first boxes (1986) won't fit due to having the starter at the wrong side.
early ones have them where the downpipe sits, that's why they don't fit . Later models have it over the gearbox.
