On the transfer case, there is a slide plate with 3 positions able to be selected, but 1 is used at only one time secured by a 12mm bolt. What is this selector rod/seclection used for. What does each position do.
i hope that answers your questions. NOTE: like it says, do not drive with it on any of the other settings in normal driving conditions!!
-thats actually pretty cool. if you broke something to the rear of the transaxle, youd be able to limp home by putting it in ff.
In a way yes but in reality that would be a bad idea; if you busted something in your drive-train, you really do not want any rotation going through it, cause if something is broken the odds are in favor of something binding and catastrophe happening. People have used it for 2WD dynos and 2WD towing, but i still would not recommend it(per my understanding and what i have read). You are most welcome man
-yeah youd have to go like 5 mph, so you dont over heat anything. but if you say broke a rear axle or center axle youd be able to make it home. same as a 4x4 truck. -2wd dyno sounds like a horrid idea.
Trevor on AT.net dyno'ed his beast like that a couple times...he eventually broke something though. ah yeah, i do concur on that. I was thinking more along the lines of a differential about to go "boom". Mostly cause i have been messing with mine some much of late. My B
Can the gearbox survive a FWD dyno session. Like why would it be bad, the gearbox was designed to be selected as fwd mode out of the other 2 selections. In my application, can the FWD mode be safely selected, as i dont have a rear transfer housing, tailshaft or rear diff.
FWD mode is only for diagnostic purposes with the car standing still. Running at speed or on a dyno is known to burn the viscous coupling, later boxes don't have the lever as it led to a lot of confusion and broken transfers. With full acknowledgement that FWD mode is a bad idea, im planning to drag my car next month in FWD mode, if it blows, it blows. If it does infact destry itself, it will give me a good reason to do a camry gearbox conversion. Major difference in driving my fwd 3sgte starlet from the gearbox selected to run from 4wd to fwd mode. Dont care if it blows cos the car is my project car on the sideline you know what i mean. I will have plenty of time to fix it.
Well, if you are already determined to try it, at least it will be a good experience for all who's courious about how long can it last.
Well you've already shown that it does work and I think the MR2/Camry conversion is inevitable, so go ahead and enjoy it Keep us posted
