So since I bought the car almost a year ago it has always had the engine light on. The guy I bought it from said it was just the o2 sensor and gave me a replacement one but he didn't have "time" to get it installed.

I've had a major service n the mechanic tried to install this o2 sensor but said it didn't fit or some crap and I should take it to an auto electrition..
Now with holidays and me havin a job and makin some money 8) I can afford to look into this further!
    I've been readin this thread
    http://www.st162.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=220
and it's making me start to think that the guy was dodgy as hell n gave me the wrong o2 sensor! here's some pics..

The car works fine after 5mins of running poorly but I would like to get it fixed and also get my battery and other crap checked (battery always seems to die)

So yeh is it the wrong sensor? how much you think they'd charge me for a new/working one?

looks right to me unless u have the 4 wire one ;p is it visible in the engine bay off your exhaust mani?

yeah check your exhaust mani for the old one, it's an easy job but if the mechanic said he couldnt do it I'm guessing yours is a 4 wire.

86-87 have one wire, 88-89 have 4, iirc

Lol yeahh.. so is youds just trying to confuse me:p lol.. well you guys know where I can get the universal 21027 4 wire Mitsubishi from? Will that one be aight in my car?
Think i could trade in this o2 sensor somehow seeings its useless to me?

Soo where is this sensor meant to be?

Would this be the reason why my engine light comes on? and why it runs poorly for like the first 5mins on the road?

    Yep.
The 86-87 had it in the exhaust manifold and you could reach it from the front, standing up. For the 88-89 3SGE, it's underneath in this Godforsaken location on the front pipe:

Note: this pic is misleading, you can't reach it from up top.
Also, the 4-wire has a heater element wire. IIRC, it aids in start up. The 1-wire can be hooked up to work, see this link: http://alltrac.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php ... highlight=

That's one advantage I had dropping an 86 engine into my 88 celi....better location for the o2 sensor! haha

You could....you can probably reach it if you jack up one side and go in from the side.... make sure you use a jackstand too for added safety so ya don't get crushed....

He said it would fit.. I've run out of time to do this before dad leaves so it seems it'll have to wait a few weeks if lucky..I've got my year12 exams coming up soo yehh... But I had the first part of getting my P's today(so I can drive witout a parent in the car) and passed that so all seems to be going alright for me at the moment 8)
