hey guys i just redid my 3sfe and dropped her back in.. now the fluid levels are great torque converter slipped in great and i just changes the tranny filter, i checked my throttle linkage to the trans and the gear shift linkage. everything is good.. but when i drive it has delayed shifts into gear sometimes not always and its driving me nuts. does anyone have any ideas please. im running rich and am gonna change the maf and o2 could that affect this in any way, also when i took the engine out i broke the nut off the gear shift arm at the base and welded a new one on could i have fried the sensor its attached to??? PLEASE HELP
i dont know what else to do

im sure this isnt the case, but is the delay in shifting that the gear ratios are higher than normal? if so check the etc./overdrive button to make sure that it is functioning correctly. i dont know where the sensor is on those or if there is one, but that could be it..

its not just overdrive, sometimes the car is at over 1000 rpms ( which means its not in gear) when im in drive so i have to put it in neutral then drive again until i see my rpms drop and im in gear, also sometimes i feel when im cruising along that my transmission is transition between gears due to a higher than average rpm. il check out the overdrive switch but it doesnt show the O/D OFF light and its not just overdrive??? im stumped

the trannie is computer controled, the computer should be in the dash right behind the gauges to the left, first off, hook a scan tool to your car, see what code it throws, if you have no access to one, let me know and ill show you how to scan your car the "fun" way. and when you dropped the pan to change the filter, did oyu loose any of the ball bearings in the valve body? how long was it ran before last fluid change? and how hard do you drive it, and be honest... like burnouts, dumping it @ like 6g, holding it in low 1 ect. . .

i tried reading tranny codes but i realized its not the A140E its the A140 and no codes were shown.. so i guess id have to do it the "fun" way.. i guess i could have been hard on the tranny but only occasionally no burnouts maybe holding it in low but this trouble started when i refurbished the engine i took the engine and trans out and changed the fluid after the drop.. everything was fine before i reinstalled it and i didnt lose anything when i changed the oil

well pull your efi fuse, that will reset any possible codes, then drive it around and see if she still does it, the fun way to check codes is, you jump a wire in the diag terminal, and the code will appear on the dash in flash form.. (ie, flash, flash, pause flash ect. . ) and what fluid did you put in the trannie??? heres a pic of what i mean.

ok i know how to do that but i thought that was just for the engine ?? when i do that it runs no codes well it runs an oxygen sensor code and an A/C switch code but i just replaced the 02 sensor and i doubt those have anything to do with the tranny

that is just for the engine, and no the o2 sensor would not affect the trannie in any way, but what type of fluid did you replace it with? dex 3?

did you flush the trannie when you changed the fluid?

no i didnt flush it.. could i do that or does a garage have to? also i was thinking maybe its solenoid in the transmission would that make any sense??

Where abouts in Ottawa are you ? I may drag my BGB with me and go for a visit.

Heres a few random pages to get you started. You have an automatic tranny so their is an ECT computer associated with it. Down at the bottom of this first page it tells you that the ECT computer determines the shift point from 2 electrical signals, the vehicle speed sensor, and the angle of the throttle body. So since you changed engines but its the same tranny I would guess the problem is with something that was changed and that would point to one of the 2 engine sensors.

I have included a link for each page because this forum is chopping off the right hand side.

Since you do have an auto tranny you do have a tranny computer ECT and it can give you codes sofollow the instructions on this page and see if you are getting any codes.

If you get a code then you can check it on this page and then cancel it out.

If you don't get any codes let me know and we can investigate further useing the following chart. Your problem sounds like the 5th box down that starts off "Delayed 1-2,2-3.." So thats why I started you off with checking codes

i cant check any codes because i have the A140L... so theres no solenoids or anything could it be the governor valve?? i really dont want to get a new tranny mine only has 150000 kilometers on it
