I changed the timing belt on the car awhile back and never set the timing because I lost my timing light. I checked the timing and it was ridiculously off. The book says it should be at the number 10. It was way past 15 all the way back behind the timing belt cover lol. It was driving well and had good power though. It just idled loud and rough. I set the timing to 10, but now the car stumbles on acceleration when shifting gears. I did bridge the terminals in the diagnostic panel. This is an 89 ST with a 3sfe engine Thanks for any ideas
Was the check engine light flashing when you jumped terminals? Engine fully warmed up etc...? Are you sure you put the pick up around the #1 spark plug wire? Possible your timing light has an electronic advance that was activated?? Either way, good luck!
I agree with Vic; check the large intake hose. My car stumbled cuz there was a crack in the hose but your couldn't see it unless you separated the accordian sections of the large intake hose.
I don't know if one of your cams could be off by a tooth .... That happened once on my G motor and it ran similar to your description till I fixed it good Vic
