Hi everyone. I want to reinstall the stock radio in my Celica and unfortunately i didn't find the stock connector amongst the many spare parts included. 1989 Celica GT-S ST162. Canada if that changes anything... P.S 1: No i don't expect or need the cassette tape to be functional. As soon as i test the unit to see if it's still alive, I'll modify it so it has an auxiliary 1/8" jack input. P.S 2: Car is all good so far by the way. Needs a clutch but nothing major. Loving it. The front windshield washer sprayers even fixed themselves! (Long shot i know haha. I suspect a bad contact.)
Ok then does anyone have the connector for the stock radio or know where i could find one? Ebay? How is that connector called? What keywords should i use? Would that information be in either the Hayne's or Chilton manuals? I spotted that RockAuto still has them both.
I might be wrong, but afaik, there is a standard for these connectors, so they should be the same in most of the cars.
I found it! The connector from the 5th generation Tercel fits. It's only missing, as expected, the pins/wires for the antenna trigger.
In case someone else attempts this someday i will add this bit of information. This is the wiring "diagram"* i used. It is correct. http://www.modifiedlife.com/1989-toyota-celica-car-stereo-wire-diagram/ 1989 Toyota Celica Car Stereo Wire Diagram Car Radio Battery Constant 12v+ Wire: Blue/Yellow Car Radio Accessory Switched 12v+ Wire: Gray Car Radio Ground Wire: Brown Car Radio Illumination Wire: Green Car Stereo Dimmer Wire: N/A Car Stereo Antenna Trigger Wire: Black/Red Car Stereo Amp Trigger Wire: N/A Car Stereo Amplifier Location: N/A Car Audio Front Speakers Size: 4″ Speakers Car Audio Front Speakers Location: Dash Left Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Pink Left Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Purple Right Front Speaker Positive Wire (+): Light Green Right Front Speaker Negative Wire (-): Blue Car Audio Rear Speakers Size: 5 1/4″ Speakers Car Audio Rear Speakers Location: Rear Deck Left Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Black Left Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): Yellow Right Rear Speaker Positive Wire (+): Red Right Rear Speaker Negative Wire (-): White Next i will have news on this project wich turned unexpectedly, amazingly well as for the AUX input mod, this thing is going to look and feel as if the radio unit had been designed this way! Also i'll try to draw an actual PinOut for the radio/amp while it's still out of the car and I'm lucky to have the plug. I'll also take and post pictures of the AUX input mod. *They call it a diagram but i don't think that's the proper term is it? Edit: Text color turned out black when copy-pasted, was a pain to read. Added asterisk.
I used any plug that fit the connector and added the pins and wiring. Alternatively, you can buy ready-made plugs for about $10 or so. Nice info you added, will be helpful for DIY'ers.
