Hi guys, I am having an issue where my Beams engine is idling pretty high, no matter how long I leave it running. I've checked for vacuum leaks and did not find any. The idle speed control valve was removed and checked and no issues found there. Is there anything else I could check or anybody else having this issue ?
has it always been doing this or was it doing fine ill recently? the reason i ask is you could have simply somehow bent the bracket that the cable mounts to, if it is out of whack that would definately make it idle a bit high. did you hear the engine run while it was in the donor car? someone could have adjusted the idle if it has a screw for that i mean. Take some pics of your setup, upload em to photobucket or something and post em here so we can see what you are dealing with. with any luck it will be something simple.
This is a work in progress car and has not done much driving. Yes it has always been like this and the engine was imported by itself so I did not hear it before the purchase. The throttle cable and bracket are fine and the throttle valve is fully closed while idling. I did all the wiring myself (novice), so I'm not ruling out an electrical issue. I will try and post some pictures later in the week. Thanks.
Oh ok, then probably just something with the wireing then, is the check engine light on? and double check your vaccume lines and make sure they are all hooked up in the correct places cause that can make a difference. Did you get the correct air box for the engine? did you check and make sure the idle controle valve is getting water? though probably a silly question since it is probably electronicaly controlled lol. Perhaps the computer thinks the ac is on thereby causing it to idle up? SOrry my only experience is with the 1st gen 3s-ge and not the red top which is alot newer. oh check your clamps on your air tube going to your airbox, i did that once where i got in a hurry putting it all back tgether and forgot to tighten one of the clamps lol.
Ok let's see. 1. No check light. I unplugged a couple sensors to make sure the light is working and it is. 2. I'll double check all the vacuum lines on the weekend. 3. I could not get the correct airbox, so I'm using an aftermarket free-flow from a Lexus (same air-flow meter). I will check the coolant lines on the weekend. What does the coolant do to the intake air anyways, I always wonder :scratch? 5. There are a few things that cause "engine idle up" on the beams. a) AC b) Electrical load c)Brake operation d)I think cooling fan operation. But they typically would not let it idle so high (1500-2000 RPM). 6. I made sure to double check the clamps. Thanks
The coolant lines heat up the valve so it knows how much air to let in to control the engine idle. aftermarket parts huh... that could very well be your issue right there. Hopefully some beams owners on here can help you shed more light on this issue since im sure they have probably had a similar issue. I did think of something though. Does it idle down at all after the engine warms up? If not then likely to be the idle air control valve is stuck. If it does idle down quite a bit but just not enough then probably something else causing it. As for the ac, well you can test whether its valve is causing the issue by simply plugging off its vaccume supply from the intake. Not sure where it is on that engine but basicaly the idea is if the valve cannot get air in it or isnt connected to a supply then it cannot cause the engine to idle up. Just throwing ideas at ya so maybe you can figure this thing out.

Thanks guys, I was able to fix the problem after watching this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yy2xqS1lfz8 . When I fist checked the ISCV, I did not remove the motor and check how much friction was on the rotary solenoid. Now my BEAMS idles perfectly .
