so since i read the other thread ive been noticing some weird stuff going on......first off my gauge for the oil has been moving way move than usual....it used to stay in the center and slowly move up as i speed up......now when i start the car it sometimes goes to the center and act normal than other times it stays low......but even if it goes to normal on start up it will go to the low side after a minute....if i gun the motor than the gauge jumps back up.....

ive checked the oil and its not low, i got an oil change less than 1500 miles ago.....i checked it again today and its black now.......and the motor sounds like its low (if you know the sound) but its not.....its in between now...

    any ideas?

Correction. .....oil isn't black but it is dirty looking......I also noticed I have oil on one of my plug wires again.

    Re: oil???

If your wire is wet with oil that plug tube has come loose and needs to be tightened or the valve cover gasket is leaking oil into the plug tube.

    Re: oil???

oil pressure will rise as your filter becomes clogged, and will fall as the oil losses viscosity. im in the thicker oil camp. but am starting to wonder about a heavier straight wieght. say 30 or 40. i run 15-50 and pressure is great, but if it sits for a couple days i get some lifter noise on the first start up.

I've ran straight 3p weight and i didnt like the way she responded to it....i hafd it dumped after 1000 miles or so......whats weird is im only about 1700 miles into my oil change.....i was thinking of getting an aftermarket gauge anyways

Check the gaskets on the top of valve cover, the ones that seal the cover to the spark plug tubes.

    Re: oil???

Your pump and bearings are worn, thicker oil will help somewhat

Watch the gauge, if the gauge isn't jumping up it's a bearing rattle you're hearing (cam buckets lie in oil)

40W-70 will keep things normal for a year or so

You need to start saving for a new pump & bearings

    Re: oil???

Question.......I've never had the pan off....is the pump in the pan or on the side of the block.....would it be okay to just change the pump for now and still run 20-50?

Are u talking about the main bearings around the crank?

Pump is on the side below the water pump. Runs off the timing belt.

    Re: oil???

well guys i went to have it checked out......guess what.....pumps fine or so it seems......gauge is fine......it was the wire on the send that goes to the gauge that was faulty ...... i had to clean it up and now its back to normal........

thanks guys for your input. im glad i didnt have to do the pump.
