Underneath that cool-looking widebody of the 165 lurks some nasty rust. I removed some of the interior panels and had a look around at the some of the body openings today and saw the cancer. ohnoes I can't do anything about it right now, but eventually I'll have to do some restoration work. That 165 bodykit hides unseen rust and that's dangerous. Sometimes I wonder if it's better to go narrow-body (and just keep the front and rear bumpers) like the JDM 165s... Anyone else look under their bodykit lately? Keep an eye on it gentlemen.
I did on my former ST165 and yes,...it was lost and I was too late. Ruste ate too far away. That's why it's on my ST162 now without drilling too many holes and using Mr. 3M
Treat it - now, before you end up replacing panels. Round tuits are getting harder to find Take the front mudguards off a 162 and you're bound to find rust holes, the side sills are no better. I've also noticed lately that the stock overflow bottle dumps water which runs down and into the RHS bumper bar and causes havoc - simple solution is to fit a longer pipe and route it down the side of the radiator
My red alltrac was plagued by it when I removed the kit from that car. The white one was in great shape considering, but alas it had been flipped and bent. The blue trac is by far the best shape. Removed a couple panels and still found no rust. Although the clips holding the kit on were shot. Still gonna POR 15 the whole underside and hopefully prevent future rust build up.
Yeah when I got my white 165 it had all sorts of rust hiding behind the body kit. Id love to convert to jdm gt4 style but the body kit is now hiding the rust repairs lol.
I thought ppl already knew this, but drain holes for the rear quarters already exist. All you have to do is pull the rubber plug; it's located on the rear quarter panel, underneath the pinch weld seam. I don't have a photo right now, but will try to put one up soon. If anyone is suffering from a fogged up rear window, check that plug. I removed mine and 2 cups of water came out.
