Just getting so pissed off with parts of the UK scene.

The original club I joined when I got my 4th gen GT4OC, is now just a ST205 and sometime a St185 love fest. Every one is chasing power outputs, I swear most of the project threads start my 400bhp... my 500 bhp this etc. Half the time you read these threads and its always the same stuff.. its boring, and staid.
Most of the cars go similar themes style wise, and try talking bout a 165, and its like pushing water up freaking hill
A lot of the newer ST205 owners treat 165 owners with a degree of patronism, "bless poor little 165", god How I want to dust every newer celica I see on track. There is so little respect for these cars now
Celica club UK, great site, friendly people, but its just me and normally one other reg in the 4th gen forum, hes now selling his 162 as he has now got a 182, so I will just be on my own. :(
If I had a 7th gen and was worrying about what gear knob to fit, I would have like 10 pages of thread.. ( exaggeration but its so style / detailing focused, it gets on my nerves)
Its like in the UK, the 4th gen celica is a dirty word.. Hardly any people with 4th gens post.

My main fun, ideas, tech help etc all comes from, the states, Oz and NZ, or Europe, apart from the small club I am member of ADL, where Steve with the Red 165 stays, the 4th gen scene is just dead in the UK.

I wouldn't mind, but without the 4th gen celica, there would be no ST205 WRC, no Carlos Sainz etc.

I am just fed up, I love participating on here and on Celicatech and sometimes on alltrach, but occasionally I would love to chat more with UK owners etc.

I will happily chat about other gens, supras etc, but it never really feels that it works both ways.

Going to the recent PPC show with 3 4th gens was great, but unless I do it with ADL, forget it.

what did the 4th gen do, to be so under valued and ignored in the UK

    Sorry rant over..

BTW this is so not aimed at Jon with his cracking 162, mate we will have to hook up one day :D

oh i hear ya. it's that way everywhere. we are the bastard children and the prototype guys. you will tend to find that we have a certain love for our cars that others don't. we tend to work a lot harder to get the same things that you can bolt to the other gens. and we tend to stand out in any crowd as one of the most unique cars there. just try thinking of it as you being the grand dad of the AWD celicas or great grandfather with the st215 in play. i enjoy the knowledge i have over all of them and spend more time laughing at other peoples cries when they have problems (for the other gens, not you guys). i'm not biased at all but people whould know their history and their car before talking shit and thinking they are top dog.
the other fun fact: we can swap in any gen motor. and usually, almost always, it's an upgrade. none of them can say the same. sure we are not the prettiest, or the highest HP, but we can say we are the reason they all exsist and they are all children to us. it takes a kid to own a 205, it takes a mechanic to own a 165, it takes a Guru to know the car inside and out and tweak the car far beyond anything it was ever designed to do.

no offense to anyone but sharing my thoughts.

Thanks mate, you summed it up so well.
I am glad its not just me. the trouble is in the UK 205s are now at such a level that they are being bought just as cheap horse power AWD cars, and then the owners have no clue as you say bout the heritage.

recently one guy purchased a 185, fitted an off the shelf budget suspension kit and FMIC, stripped it out then claimed he was building a time attack circuit car  these people have no idea how hard it is to actually build a proper track or drag car..

    This also saddens me.

I know what you're saying and in many ways it's a pretty sad state of affairs. I think there is definitely a gap in the market for a UK classic Toyota's club - at the moment it's quite a fractured scene as the Celica/MR2/Supra guys all do their own thing and a lot of knowledge doesn't get transferred.

As for celica-club, I have to admit I object to paying money just to post about my car, as much as I'd like to join in and raise the profile of gen4's :) Unfortunately it's unlikely I'll get much back (though there's always plenty more to learn).

Did you see the very clean convertible that ended on ebay this evening? Lovely car yet fetched less than £600.

was that the white one? it did look nice.

there was also a really over priced red one, with a few mods, I think it was at 2k.

TBH the min reason I joined the CCUK was because of the TSS guys I race against, apart from that, unless you are into lots of styling stuff and static shows its not everyones cup of tea.

I agree a classic Toyota club would be a good idea, there must be plenty of 4th gen owners out there?

I try!!! Believe me, I have tried with a number of 4th gen owners I know.

What I mean is to try and flush these owners out, they just dont seem to be at shows or on any forums.

dont let it get to you buddy, its hard to change what people think is cool. at one point the 1980s camaro w/ a 350 brick was the coolest thing, but then the next gen came along and suddenly it was obsolete. the 4g is veiwed as a mid 80's pile. if you were to ask me, its the last celica that had any sign of balls. i am open to see what people can do to other newer gens. but to say ours are useless (well mine is) is just wrong. any retard can slap a turbo and big rims on his car and think he/she is hot shit. but it takes a true enthusiast to tune, create, and appreciate a certain type of car (in this case the 4g) if you ask me just sit back and watch. there cars will break down, will just be considered nothing and yours will still be going strong, kicking ass all the way.

its hard at times, coz you put so much work into your car, and really only a select few can see what you have done, to all the others, its just an old celica
What gets my goat with the UK scene, is the fact is that it is dominated by scoobies and Evos plus Hondas. any Toyota has to work so hard to make an impact on the scene, and then toyota fans dismiss the 4th gen.

Gen 1 - 3 is seen as Retro RWD cool, stock or modded they have a strong dedicated following
Gen 5 - 6 is seen as the cool older option, the editor of one of the UKs mags is runing a 202 as a bargain car, Stick GT4 after the model no and it becomes silly season.
Gen 7 So many are just what I can wheel cars, some nice rims, lowered and ice, and thats it!

I dont be grudge the other cars, but show people a 4th gen and they just lose interest, tell them how many ways you can jazz up a stock 162, be it half track, V6 etc and its like you are talking a diff language.

They had a thread on CCUK where they wanted you to post pics of your fav celica, I put up a recent pic of Nemesis, and nothing, nada, diddly squat. yet they all got there knickers on a twist bout a gen 6 which had a different rear spolier???

There is a call site called pistonheads, which I am a member of, it caters for everything from track cars, to bentlys to Ferraris and stock cars like VW golf. if you put up a pic in the members cars of a shopping hatch, they get all excited, stick a 4th gen up and its like tumbleweed.

Another site for a magazine called practical performace car, aimed at diyers who build fast cars, be it big or small, again no interest in the 4th gen..

Its like it has a disease, or commited mass murder.

I wonder if part of it is just ignorant bias towards 80s jap cars, that arn't drift rwd monsters???

    anyway feel better for sharing.

There is some fantastic cars on this site, with truly dedicated owners, that would out many of the other owners on other sites to shame. I love these cars, and it just pisses me off that so many people are down on em.

Still just going to use it as extra motorvation for next sundays race, and Mafix, I really want you to run as close to 11s as you can, coz thats a lot faster than most of the over blown 205s can do

LOL - I have to chuckle when I see them raving over a riced VW, Astra, Scooby, BMW etc
And I do notice the looks my cars get, jealous much?

We're all in the same boat! There are heaps of 16x's here, but getting them to share ideas, cars etc is like drawing blood?

I agree with Mafix's views, we are in a unique position and in a few years time these cars will
get the recognition they deserve. 16x owners are definitely a different breed.

This place is overrun with 182's, 202's, gen7's. The gen 4 is now becoming such a rarity that people are asking what it is.
When you say "Toyota", you get a look of total disbelief, shock even

Drifting is the "buzz word" here - a scrappy rwd Corolla KE, AE or Celica g1-3 will sell for $4000+ whereas a gen4 will need to be pretty immaculate to fetch $1000 (most are fukd and hence the $1 sales)

I love helping guys here, but no more -
    a) They can't afford the parts (but there's money for riced rims, steering, gauges, Xhorst etc?)
    b) Everything's stripped, bent or plain "fukd"
    c) "Maintenance" is a foreign word (Latin?)
    d) You must do it for them for free, & don't show the interest or inclination to do it for themselves
    e) It's fukd again within a month
    f) You see them on TV doing burnouts, skipping lights, throwing bottles at cops, or DEAD
The next time you see it is at the scrapyard!

I note there are hundreds of members here who have not posted in the last 6 months,
    makes you wonder?

I was looking for another mirror for R/Rocket a few months back and walked into one of the
"Toyota dedicated scrapyards" (Rosebank Rd offramp, Auckland West).
I asked the owner if he had any 16x's and the response was-
"I don't keep shit, I have staff to pay!"

I couldn't help laughing at the guy - he was standing in front of a 4dr KE20 he had lavished
much money and attention on, and on his left was an almost complete gen3. (never even seen one running?)
Once again there were 182's, gen7's and 202's all over the place -
Scratch one hard-core customer with O/S connections fukhead!

    yer that really sucks

at 1st i thought ozcelica was bad for 4th gens but show them a nice condition one and people really give praise (well the more promonent people on there). Its probably coz 4th gens are very common here, but to find a good condition one is rare and for that they can appreciate the effort required to maintain such an old car at a great level. Probably also the fact that here 205's are still fairly rare and most of the 185's usually arent on the road, mainly coz alot of them try and boost them to high with everything else stock haha.
The 16x truely is a car of passion. Its interesting as much as i love my car i can face the facts its, old, paints crap lots of things dont work etc. yet lots of my friends absolutely love it (especially the girls ;) ).

in closing least you have us!

not going anywhere, love it here :D

Thanks for the words guys, just going to adopt the principle of stepping back from the UK sites, and letting all the egos blow up and make pretty their cars, while real car modding, lateral thinking and sheer hard work happen on this site with our 4th gens.

I must sound churlish moaning about other celica owners, when so many markets missed out on the 205.
Its a great car, far superior out of the box compared to the 165, but so it should be its also far newer.

I am know going to keep score of how many 205s I blow away on track, I cannot lose.. they ARE supposed to beat me, they are much newer, much easier to tune, and more popular..so I may lose a few battles, but to the others..I SAY BRING IT!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd be petty miffed every time my newer car got beat by grandad

haha the day i went to get my new tires i had two older gentlemen obviously staring  at my car from stopped traffic in the other lane. and they were driving a brand new s2000:) you know we may not get respect, but loving our cars is what a true enthusiast does. its not about hp outputs or always having the latest and greatest in aftermarket. no its about finding something you are passionate about and making it preform better than it did when it rolled off the showroom floor. personally our st162/165's have more soul than the newer celicas. they were the last of the performance oriented celica models (alltrac/gt4 excluded ;)). so much technological innovation that you dont see on any other car for the bargains you can get. do i need heated mirrors or power seats...? no. but is it cooler than shit that not even beemers of the day had when we have, hell yea. st 162 love forever for sure!

Totally agree with Rich, there are a shortage of UK gen4 owners, and the ones who do own them treat them with no respect. When the gen4 first appeared, the shape took the world by storm and as for rallying, that speaks for itself.
At shows I attend, my gen4 hardly gets the interest generated by scoobies, hondas, mitsibushis, with all their shiny engines.( I"m only saying that cos mine isn"t shiny, apart from the bodywork) and their loud music systems. Whats the point in having all that great music in such a tiny cubicle? A waste of money, better spent in the home, when you can appreciate it more.

Hey Rich you know that im new to the scene compared to the rest of the guys on here but we still pop up from time to time with a previously lost gen4 that we love so dont lose faith in the uk scene too much.i know where youre coming from re the CCUK site but im gonna keep my posts going on there:if i hadnt spoken to you on there i maybe wouldnt have found the true home of the gen4! People who know cars know the true history of this gen so lets hope more come in from the dark.....i was PMd by a guy on CCUK with a gen4 myself, maybe i should take your lead and give him this site info and do my bit as you have. Im not a flash in the pan newbie whos gonna give up when things fuck up and im sure theres more out there in the UK,the tough bit is finding them.......and bringing them here.what youve shown that can be done to your car in the UK is fantastic, cheers for the inspiration fella.Lets get some more.A full blown UK meet with a shitload of gen4s from standard to Trin style would be sweeet but i agree we need the numbers somehow.bring em on

Seriously, the 4th gen rarely gets the respect it so richly deserves. Going to a school for gearheads, there's no shortage of both well done and riced jap cars, but the only other 4g looks like a rednecks beater car that he drives just for gas savings (it is totally hosed, I doubt it's even useful as a parts car anymore). There are several 5g and 7g owners (and 1 6g), and not a single one has ever given my 4g even a cursory glance, and look at me like I have AIDS when I park near them.

However, several of my friends seem quite taken with it, one has even threatened to steal it from me, so there is hope, comrades!
