Hey everyone i have been away from here for quite a while mostly because my celica had some issues after a tranny rebuild in which my mechanic didnt adjust my shift linkage correctly and consequently one night i was egged on by my buddie to redline third in my gts. well the shift to fourth did some funky crap and i over revved my motor. but the clutch is okay and my freshly rebuilt tranny seems to be okay cause a friend drove it home for me in second gear. but the added stress of like 10 k on a motor pushing 18o thou wasnt great. then it sat for a year before we had enough room to pu it in our garage. but it fired up after three cranks unlike my moms jetta that refuses to start . needless to say ive grown to be lonly of my faithful celi and would like to get a new motor and clutch in her so i can use my own car. my moms auto camry just isnt doing it for me. i need more power and my stick shift. so the question of the day is will a second gen 3sge fit in my car or to i need the first gen tvis model. id like the better headers and added hp. well i guess that comes with the jdm ecu. also id like to get some new breaks because my rotors are a bit rusty and i need something more capable as id like to use this car for some light autocross in the near future. if i were to off a couple of junkers and raise my grand total of cash stash to 1900 would that be enough to put my beloved car on the road...?
btw ebay has a gen 2 3sge that is from an automatic car. that would be balls out awesome. here a link its current and i see it up all the time its in my budget atm too. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/90-93-TO ... 06.c0.m245 and there is this one like mine from an auto as well.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/86-89-TO ... 06.c0.m245
The Gen2 3SGE will bolt up fine but you still have to source the ECU and wiring harness. If you had the whole front clip, it'd be different. Lot more issues to deal with for not a whole lot more HP. IMO, easier to just drop in the Gen1 3SGE and be done with it.
Can't you install the gen2 and still use the gen1 harness, ecu, afm, TB without swapping everything? ie the US FE's have the AFM, ours don't Sure it has no T-VIS (the plenum chamber is vacuum operated) and it has a knock sensor but the motors are very similar in every other respect You could also buy the gen2 and just use the bottom end with your head, I don't see km's on those motors so a refresh would be a good idea
okay i just wanted the gen two exhaust header b ut im not up for dealing with bullshit or extra hassle so a gen 1 will be fine . as for a refresh i was thinging general stuff like waterpump, oil pump, and t-belt. anything else major to do...? like i said i will have a budget of around 1700 to 1800 to get her road worhty again so anything you guys throw at me is seriously appreciated. i want to do this once and do it right so i can laugh all the way to the bank when my $1200 87 celica is still on the road when new mustangs are falling apart lol
if you are going to use gen 2 engine, use gen 2 software as well. My Bro in law did this and his celi isn't driving very well .... and won't get it to work properly also. Gen1 + gen1 Gen2 + gen2 etc. Toyota isn't stupid of course. Allthough gen 2 and 3 is more interchangable.
well i think ill avoid any hassle and use the equipment that the car came with. if i was gonna do any radical engine swaps id do a BEAMS swap and deal with all the bs that way. the headache would be worth my time then lol. well when i happen to be rolling in dough. a k20 swap in a eg hatch would be easier though.
what happened to the motor. the ge has a realistic red line of 13000 rpm. i'd be curious to see what is damaged.
Designed by? or actually assembled at Yamaha? I do know it was quickly copied by the likes of Opel, VW, Fraud, Alfa etc
i believe designed at yamaha. i couldn't see toyota outsourcing the entire head. they would loose too much money that way.
well my valve seals were already going so the misshift caused the problem to intensify. and for some reason my clutch release fork was bent in the process so i get no clutch engaugement. so i kinda figured i needed a new motor. mabey just a rebuild on the head...? but since i gotta pull the whole motor to work on the clutch components i figued it would be a good time to drop a new one in...
ummm i beleive 178x,xxx. what does a reseal entail...? and since the local meth addicts stole all my dads tools, i have to have someone do this for me :/. so besides what parts, what do you think the cost will be? wish i lived near you guys lol. you really know what ur doing
oh well it would be cheaper to get a jdm motor then rebuild yours. although don't throw your motor out.
yea thats what i thought. they have a first gen jdm on ebay for about 600. id do a new clutch, tbelt, oil and water pumps. do think that is realistic for around 1500 to 1700 bucks ?
anything under 2K and you are good. get the JDm, inspect it. my motor from toysport had everything on it new. change what is NEEDED and go from there.
idk if i can cough up two k. but i can try to do what i can. id rather not sell her for 650 on craigslist cause i like it so much... toysport...? they have good stuff...?
